A cake smash session is an absolutely wonderful
way to celebrate a birthday of your baby! The
images taken at a cake smash session are
unique, memorable, and make incredible decor
and gifts for your home and family.
Each session will be set at the pace of the baby
and will normally last up to an hour.

So what happens?
Cake smashes are ideal for first birthdays as
children this age love messy play. Soft squidgy
cake that tastes nice too is the ideal
encouragement to get those hands in and Get
Messy!
Once your child is dressed in the outfit for the
smash, I'll bring out the cake and start to take
photos of your child as they interact with the
cake. It is perfectly normal to have to
encourage the to get their hands in and get
messy so please expect to get messy yourself!

The set decoration
This is one of the most important aspects to
focus on for your session as it's what gives
your images that individuality and character.
If you have choosen to have me design your
set please communicate itwh us at least
2weeks in advance what colour scheme you
would like. Also if providing your own outfit
please email me a quick picture of your little
one's smash outfit.

Key to a successful session
Ensure your baby has had a nap. Tired
babies do not give good results.
If possible bring 2 adults to the session. Your
baby will move and need re-positioning. Its
always good to have someone to attract baby's
attention and make them smile. If this is not
possible, just brings lost of energy.
Remember that you will want the focus of the
session to be the baby and the cake, so with
your colour scheme in mind choose a cake
which compliments the colour scheme. Giant
cupcakes are really popular, with Vanilla sponge
cake looking great in images, avoid white,
chocolate or red icing.

Your child will probably cry. Almost all one
year olds cry at some point during the
session .. when you pop them down ..or when
they get their hands messy. Don't worry I can
handle what ever they throw at me (including
cake). I have a variety of things to hopefully
distract your baby.
My home studio will be a mess when the
session is over. Its ok. Please don't apologise
or offer to help me clean . It is expected and I
love it.
Cake smash sessions are one of my very
favorite kind of sessions.
