Effective August 1, 2012, all new builds must comply with all Operations (Sections 100-1700) and Design & Construction
standards (Section 2500). Beginning October 1, 2012, all existing hotels must comply with the following Operation standards
changes. Non-compliance of the following items will result in point deductions during quality assurance evaluations unless an
alternative compliance date is indicated. All properties that choose to voluntarily renovate, or do so as required by a PIP must
comply with the Design & Construction standards upon renovation. (updated 8/1/12)

Two soap dishes are required in bathtub/shower combos.
Soap dishes must not have grab handles and must not be
plastic. For shower-only rooms, the single soap dish must
be placed in the corner on the showerhead wall, 48”/1.20
m above the finished floor, and a footrest in the corner
opposite the showerhead on the back wall, 15”/380 mm
above the finished floor. For bathtub/shower combos, the
shower height dish remains in the showerhead corner with
the bathtub height centered on the back wall 24”/610 mm
above the finished floor. Bathtubs or showers with multiple
grab bars required by the local jurisdiction may adjust dish
locations as needed.
One 304 stainless-steel towel shelf with a single bar must
be provided over tubs where shown on the prototype. The
shelf must be 24”/610 mm minimum with 3/4”/19 mm O.D.
shelf and bar tubing. Fourteen-gauge support plates must
be positioned behind the 2"/51 mm minimum-width wall
flange. A 304 stainless-steel, vertical towel rack (ladderstyle)
with three horizontal bars must be provided in
showers where shown on the prototype. The rack must be
18"/450 mm wide minimum with 3/4”/19 mm O.D.
horizontal bar tubing.
18”/450 mm towel bar must be installed immediately
adjacent to vanity. Towel bar is not allowed over the water
closet. The light switches and receptacles at the vanity
must not be concealed when towels are placed on the
towel bar. The towel bar may be mounted on the face of
the vanity.
Two single or one double robe hook must be provided.
Mount at 6’-0”/1.8 m above the finished floor.
Any electrical equipment must be mounted 6”/150 mm
above floor level to avoid contact with water from potential
leaks.
Provide a minimum area as shown on the prototype plans
for the computer/telecom room. For non-prototypical
hotels with less than 300 guestrooms, a minimum 170
ft²/16 m² room is required. Hotels with more than 300 keys
must increase the size to 270 ft²/25 m².
Floor finish: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) material - tile,
paint, carpet or VCT
Uninterrupted power supply (UPS) is required for the
computer systems.
The system must provide no less than one hour autonomy
for the computer systems attached.
