is there some information that we didn't give you?"
"No, it's a private matter actually, and I was wondering whether you could
help."
"If I can I will."
"As you know I spent a lot of time in Australia and I believe there's an Aussie
that I once knew working at the Embassy. I'd like to find out where he lives and
surprise him."
"Why don't you phone the Embassy?"
"They won't give out the information over the phone, in any case, I only know
his nickname. Could you find out where he lives, if I give you a good description?"
"Yes, we have photo ID's of all the Embassy staff, it would only take ten
minutes. There's only a few people involved, you're not going to do him any harm
are you?"
Will laughed. "No, you're the last people I'd contact if that was my motive."
"I guess that's right. Give me the description and I'll phone you tomorrow
morning at this time."
The day passed without incident but he had to keep pushing the recent events
into the back of his mind in an effort to get his work done.
At 9 a.m. the next day Will sat nervously next to the phone and within a few
minutes it rang. It was his contact from Scotland Yard. "I've got what you want
Will."
"Did you have to contact the Embassy?"
"No."
"That's good, he won't have an inkling that he's going to be surprised."
"His name is William Boyd, they call him Billy Boyd. He's employed as a
courier, I'll give you his address." Will feverishly jotted down the details. "Is there
anything else you'd like to know?"
"No, not at the moment, you've given me everything I had hoped for. See you
at the meeting in two weeks time."
Will sat for a moment temporarily dazed at the ease with which he had
obtained the information. Most of the time it was a frustrating exercise. He quickly
grabbed the London Street Directory. He had been mistaken about Billy living in
Earl's Court but that would only tend to make him feel more secure. The suburb
of Ealing was only seven or eight miles from the city centre and the street only five
