Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge is spread along the
northern bank of the Moeraki River just a short way
from where it leaves the lake of the same name.
Surrounded by 1,000 year old kahikatea and rimu
trees, and straddling geologically significant layers
of prehistoric sedimentary rocks, the local environment
is world-class. A short 45 minute walk out to
the coast at Monro Beach highlights this to perfection.
With 28 guest rooms numbers are usually such
that a stay at the lodge is an intimate experience.
Guests eat together in the Riverside Restaurant
and the cuisine is all fresh, mainly local produce
from the West Coast and Otago. The wine list reflects
Frank’s love of wine with a 90% New Zealand
showing. A special touch is the small hydro scheme
on the river out front that provides all the power
used at the lodge.
