EVTEKS
welcomes the
world home
textiles
We were in Como, Italy with our previous issue to attend and
cover an exciting and one of the most prestigious home textile
events. It was Proposte celebrating 25th year. We enjoyed it
very much and came home for a huge exhibition in the industry…
Istanbul Home Textile Show EVTEKS is one of the largest and
most important international trade fairs for home and contract
textiles. It is very important for the sector because Turkey has
some world brands manufacturing at European standards with
big volumes in home and contract textiles and Evteks is the
number one show of these important brands.
FOCUS
The Turkish home textile industry has a significant
role in world trade and capacity to meet the high standards
of all sophisticated consumers.
Almost all kinds of home textiles are produced in Turkey
and may be listed by export value as follows: towels, bed
sheets, bed spreads, curtains, blankets, pillows, quilts,
cushions, eiderdowns, table linens, tulle, lace, goblen,
flander, aubusson, wall hangings and sleeping bags.
The Turkish home textile industry is one of the world leaders
with its wide range of products and superior quality in
home textile production, especially in the production of
towels, bed sheets and covers, curtains, tulle, embroidery,
guipure and quilt covers. Turkey has the largest machine
park for the production of both embroidery and guipure in
the world. Europe’s largest factory producing quilt covers
is in Turkey. The Turkish home textile industry has also acquired
the latest technology with a high production capacity,
a highly skilled labor pool, and design and fashion capabilities.
In addition, the industry has managed to reduce
the cost of production below the world
average while it has increased the quality
of its products. Therefore, with a huge production
capacity, high quality and strong
competitiveness, Turkey was among the
world’s top three suppliers of towels, bed
sheets, bedspreads and curtains in 2015.
In Turkey, the towel sector has traditional
roots and its towels are known as “Turkish
Towels” worldwide. Today the Turkish
towel sector has competitive power in international
markets in terms of jacquard
and embroidery technologies. Lace, which
is commonly used in many textile applications,
especially in home textiles, is originally
a Turkish handicraft. It is an embroidery
art reaching back to the mid 1500s
and crowned by the labor of Turkish women.
It is an outstanding handicraft with its
traditional taste and motifs in different colors
and lines, which are now reflected in
modern home decoration.
Turkish home textile producers are mainly
located in Istanbul, Denizli, Bursa,
Tekirdag, Izmir, Gaziantep, Kayseri and
Usak. Towel and bathrobe producers are
concentrated in Denizli and Bursa, voile
producers in Usak. Many of the producers in
these cities have integrated their production process
from yarn and fabric production to product
design, dying, finishing and sewing in order to
obtain the best quality in every stage of production.
Denizli is the manufacturing center of toweling
sector city is mostly concentrated on toweling
sector. Over 190 companies in Denizli manufacture
cotton towels and bathrobes. Such a manufacturing
facility on one product group in the
same area is a success story and a good example
of the cluster development. In Denizli, towels and
bathrobes are manufactured from Aegean cotton
which is the finest cotton in the world. These
towels and bathrobes are well known throughout
the world with their extraordinary softness,
absorbency and warmth. Their extraordinary
pile thickness and density give towels and bathrobes
these superior features. In addition, the
more these towels and bathrobes are washed,
the softer and more absorbent they
become, contrary to the ordinary products.
That’s why Denizli on its own has a
major share in world’s cotton towel and
bathrobe exports. About 90% of these
products are exported to all over the
world. “Turkish Towels and Bathrobes”,
especially the ones from Denizli, are not
used only at homes but also presented
by 5 or 4 star hotels in all over the world
as a quality service sign. Moreover,
visitors of these hotels would consider
a negative point in their services if
“Turkish Towels and Bathrobes” were
not kept in bathrooms, sport centers,
saunas and Turkish baths.
Bursa is one of the most important manufacturing
centers in the textile field in
the world and it is mostly concentrated
on the manufacturing of curtains, curtaining
and upholstery fabrics, decoration
fabrics, bedding products, towels
and bathrobes as well as other textiles.
Besides large-scale firms, there are
many small and medium sized companies
scattered all around the country. In
the rural areas around some cities like
Denizli, Mugla and Kastamonu, the production
of traditional fabrics is still widespread,
and recently they have been
used in the production of home textiles.
One of these traditional fabrics having
worldwide fame is the “Buldan Fabric”, from the Buldan
province of Denizli. With its characteristic designs, it is
unique and carries the heritage of the past into the present
as it is woven on traditional hand looms. This fabric, which
has a completely natural look and basic textile characteristic
due to its being made of pure cotton, is widely used
both in traditional and modern home decoration. Another
traditional fabric is “Selalmaz Çemberi” which takes its
name from Selalmaz, a region in Kastamonu. This fabric is
also obtained from pure cotton yarn and woven on hand
looms. It is a very thin fabric like tulle. It is a difficult fabric
to weave that one can only weave one meter per day. Due
to its outstanding originality it is used widely in-home decoration
as well as in clothing. “Azdavay Çemberi” is another
famous fabric woven in Azdavay, a town of Kastamonu. It
is made from linen or pure cotton and it is a very original
hand woven fabric. This fabric like Selalmaz Çemberi, is
woven loose or dense. It is used widely in home decoration
and clothing production. Since all of these traditional
fabrics are natural, made of pure cotton or linen without
using any chemical dyes, they are environmentally friendly.
Therefore, there is considerable demand for home textiles
made of these fabrics in international markets.
Today the Turkish home textile industry is aware of the
trend in international markets towards the increasing demand
for healthier and more environmentally friendly
products and quickly adapts itself to developments in legal
and technical regulations. Many manufacturers in the
sector are able to produce with quality and environment
management systems, e.g. ISO 9000 series. Additionally,
some companies in the home textile sector have private
Eco labels.
In a rapidly changing world, the home decoration field is
very sensitive to all changes. That’s why the creation of collections
with innovative and modern designs and motifs in
addition to the quality of the product is essential. Turkish
home textile manufacturers are very conscious about
fashion creation and design, which enables them to gain
a special place in international markets. New and modern
designs and unique motifs, all created by Turkish designers,
keep a finger on the pulse of world home decoration
fashion and meet most tastes and preferences.
Besides meeting domestic demand in
for the country. The sector exports about
60% of its production.
With its fashion products, the advanced
technology of production and quality of
products, Turkey has been increasing her
share in the main markets, especially in
the European market. Therefore, prominent
world suppliers have started to cooperate
The main export products in 2015 were
towels, bathrobes, dressing gowns, bed
linens, furnishing and curtain fabrics, and
the trade fairs are organized in European countries in
which we find opportunity for either direct or indirect
contacts with professionals representing supermarket,
shopping malls, stores and tradespeople.
On your plans for 2017
In 2017 we, as Celik Tekstil, aimed to reach wider
markets in the world through our powerful and global
network.
Do you have any additional comment on your
activities and about the industry?
Textiles have been regarded as second class industry in
the development of countries. However, we believe that
having value added products and powerful brands are
more important to close the gap of foreign currency balance
in national economy.

Combined design expertise comes to Frankfurt: seven international trend agencies met on 7 and 8 March
for the Heimtextil Trendtable meeting at Messe Frankfurt’s exhibition grounds. They collated results from market
research with the latest global design developments. These statements form the basis for the Heimtextil
Trendbook which is presented by the trade fair organizers in late summer. With this annual meeting of design
experts, Heimtextil has officially started its preparations for the upcoming trade fair in January 2018.
Designers from Europe, Asia and America come together at the Heimtextil Trendtable.
Trend researchers from Denmark, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands and the USA
discussed current trends in interior design, architecture, fashion and art during the two-day workshop. 'Given that
participants come from different continents, the Trendtable team at Heimtextil is able to draw from a comprehensive
pool of inspiration and gain exciting perspectives on the interior design of tomorrow', reports Olaf Schmidt,
Vice-President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt. Ten months before the next Heimtextil, the
designers have made it their aim to analyze developments in materials and textures, colors and patterns from all
four corners of the world and determine the stylistic design themes. At the end of the process, a mutual, globally
applicable trend prognosis for the coming 18 months will be agreed upon and presented in the Heimtextil
Trendbook and also the "Theme Park" during Heimtextil itself.
Proposte!
The only-European
show for
furnishing fabrics
and curtains
triggered the trade
and displayed the
future trends
After the last two editions that took place in April,
Proposte returned to its regular time, early May. The month
may means Proposte in the furnishing fabric and curtain
business. Most professionals put this on their agenda every
year when they plan the year. This time it was on the
3rd, 4th and 5th May, when Proposte opened the gates of
Villa Erba in Cernobbio for the twenty-fifth time.
The show attracted a real good of interest from buyers
and other professionals of the sector. Almost all of the
exhibitors found it very much satisfactory and expressed
their satisfaction.
In 2015, with the admission of three Turkish companies
to the Fair, Proposte began a process of internationalization,
that continues into 2017, turning its attention to the
American market with the inclusion of the companies MLT
INC. and J.B. MARTIN Co., a clear sign that this exhibition
is always in search of the most outstanding names in
textiles around the world. The new 2017 admissions also
included the Spanish firm HIJOS DE ANTONIO FERRE SA,
the German company NEUTEX HOME DECO GMBH and
the Turkish GULESER TEKSTIL. With entering of Guleser
inside the heart of Proposte, there have been 4 Turkish
exhibitors in the Villa Erba. Previously there were Dina
Vanelli, Penelope and Marteks.
Inside Villa Erba’s show area there were 89 exhibitors of
whom 42 were Italian and 47 from abroad broken down
as 5 from the UK, 2 from The Netherlands, 7 from France,
16 from Belgium, 7 from Spain, 1 from Australia, 4 from
Germany, 4 from Turkey, 1 from Switzerland and 2 from
the USA. 89 exhibitors that included (for the first time)
American fabrics which, after the admission of Turkish exhibitors
in the last two editions, celebrate the increasingly
international vocation of the fair.
89 exhibitors in a single large tapestry, which highlighted
the 13 companies that participated (without any interruptions)
in these 25 historic editions renewing, edition after
May 2017
87
edition, their faith, proud to be an active part of the history
of Proposte. And in fact the collections observed in the
stands showed this pride, this energy…the pure passion.
As is known only manufacturers of furnishing fabrics, curtains
and trimmings are admitted to exhibit at Proposte
but they must possess at least three characteristics: the
qualification of their companies and products, professional
correctness, commitment to research and development
in creativity and technologies. This hard selection attracts
utmost interest of the sector professionals. So, open to
European exhibitors only but the show attracts a great
many professionals as visitors from around the world. It is
not open to the public. Visitors to Proposte could access
the fair only if accredited directly by the organizing secretariat
of the fair itself only if they belong to the categories
as: textile editors, manufacturers of upholstered furniture,
wholesalers, buying groups, converters and contract operators.
A great passion, for furnishing fabrics, is what quickly led
PROPOSTE to achieve and maintain the level of quality and
internationality that characterize it today, and that since
the beginning has led the organizers to develop initiatives
88
HTE
EVENTS
and projects for its progressive and
steady growth.
Proposte has worked with great professionals
and artists, from Zeffirelli
to Ciampi all the way to Karim
Rashid, who designed the advertisement
page and assisted with the exhibition
of real works of art.
The show has developed specific
initiatives for the sector, like conferences
dedicated to the world of
fabric in architecture and of design,
in contract; over the course of the
years it was able to create a lively
debate between business owners
and designers, between research
labs and architects whose use of the
latest generation of fabrics in their
work testifies to a continual renovation,
even in this specific sector.
Proposte has also kept an eye on
the world of trends, without ever
wanting to specifically embracing it,
in the belief that it is the exhibitors
and their collections that set the
trends and dictate the direction of
the future.
May 2017
89
Pure passion the interpretation of
which was left to, for the 25th edition,
the contemporary artist Paolo
Gonzato. He designed the work of
art that distinguished the Central
Pavilion: a huge tapestry testified to
the importance of the 25 years of
success, in which (once again) the
protagonists were the fabrics and the
curtains of the exhibitors.
Just like last year the International
Observatory was held in four locations,
the Sheraton Lake Como Hotel,
Spazio Como, Cernobbioshed and
Villa Bernasconi, just a few minutes
from Villa Erba, where 42 companies
from the fabric sector exhibited: 31
Turkish, 10 Indian and one Moroccan.

monthly capacity is about 50 thousand meters, however we
of 2,2 thousand sqm where warehousing, handling and
shipping and other operations are carried out. In the
near future, we will establish a production facility.
What do you want to say about your export
markets and your targets?
We sell mainly to markets in Europe and in the Middle
East. In the future, we target to sell to American continent.
We started studies to enter these markets.
Are your customers satisfied?
Product quality and timely delivery are our priorities. For
us, price comes as third factor to please our customers.
We do not compromise on quality and faster delivery.
Do you participate in international fairs?
Naturally, Evteks and Hometex are major events for us
and other fairs held in Germany and in Mexico. Fairs are
important tool in order to expand the vision of the companies
and improve their credibility and dependability
in the market. Additionally, they are fruitful commercial
platforms in terms of sales figures.
What are your targets for the year 2017?
To be realistic, we can say that our main objective is to
keep our present position in 2017. Sometimes, it is also
a real success to maintain your position that you have
in the market.
Is there any other additional point do you want
to add about the industry or on your activities?
The market for the industry had started to be squeezed
recently. It may be seen normal, even in global terms.
But, it should not be forgotten that periods of crises
have also their opportunities for enormous business
and profits if you have courage enough to take risks.
So, I advise to all our friends, suppliers,
and our dear buyers the we should all have
to keep going without losing our motivations
and be optimistic about the future.

Would you tell us about brief history of your
Established five years ago to produce systems and
Ahmet Duygucu
Our production is carried out on automatic CNC cutter
is the highest in manual production processes. Humans
err and cut wrong. Fabrics are laid down and then are
cut at desired sizes and patterns by the software that
were uploaded to the cutting machine. Following this
stage, fabrics are also assembled by automatic machinery
and at the last stage they are tested by high technology
Do you participate in fair event? Are fairs
important for your business?
What can you said about export markets, and your
targets for the future?
If you want to be successful in the business, you have to
open up to international markets and be ready for harsh
competition. It is harder to find customers and become successful
if you are in crowded markets than in the ones that
has limited players. Our aim is to sell half of our production
How is your customer satisfaction policy?
We try to answer to the demands and complaints of our customers
under legal frameworks by observing certain principles
including transparency, privacy, reachability, integrity,
Fairs are great opportunities to deliver our messages
to certain segments of the market. They
addresses to those people who are interested in
certain industries and certain products. Fairs are
also good for getting to know about the developments
and rival products in the industry. The
value of fairs is related to their compactness and
their ability to focus on certain kind of target buyers.
Do you have plans for the year 2017?
We will keep following the markets, to analyze, invest
in and develop our abilities step by step, extend our
vision, provide employment, develop strategy and be
ready for every development in the market psychologically.
We will reduce our risks, expand our portfolio,
invest in machinery, and become an experienced producer.
Any other points that you want to say about?
Yes, they say that, “those who work may loose, but,
those who do not attempt has been lost long time
123
On his assessment of the year 2016
There were ups and downs in 2016. Effects
of them will continue in 2017, at least for
6 months. To get a right position for us is
important. We observe financial problems
in the world, and they affect us either positively
or negatively. Despite all these we
have to put economic issues on the agenda
of the country, including production,
investment, employment and exports.
Political power depends on the economic
power of the nations.
On his evaluation about the year
2016
Despite all hardships brought by professional
lives, there are several causes to
stick to the living. We became a great buyer
for giant foreign companies serving in
international markets, and they have to
try to satisfy our nation. We are cooperating
with world famous designers that are
trends setters for years while participating
in the fair that focused on home and hotel
textile products.
On the importance of fair activities
We believe that sectoral fairs that are held
both in and out of the country are highly
beneficial for us because ther are good
for finding new markets, new products
and new technologies used
in home textile industry and
having talks directly with our
customers.
On the year 2017
In 2017 we targeted to maintain
our customer base and
the product quality and especially
we have to find new
markets, to open up new
134 HTE
PROFILE
The development and the production of the
machinery is supported with R&D incentives
provided by Tubitak, the scientific and technological
research authority in Turkey.
Swell Soft machinery can process a wide range
of fabric categories, including the lighter tulle,
knitted or woven fabrics, velvets, draperies, imitative
leathers, blankets, carpets made of all
kinds of natural or synthetic fibers.
One of the early models of Swell Soft is the
carpet finishing machinery that was installed in
the factory of Kartal Carpet, one of the major
carpet manufacturer brands in Gaziantep in
2012 and it still serves flawlessly. Another one
is sold to Erdenet Carpet company in Mongolia.
Talks with companies in Belgium, Iran, Egypt,
and China are continuing to sell machinery to
buyers in the countries mentioned above.
Swell Soft finishing machinery are also used in
the processing of digitally printed fabrics and
textiles successfully. The product has been
developed after close cooperation with the famous
name of the bathroom carpet industry
Sevket Taskin of Taskin Carpet firm. Following
the production of pilot product was seen as
successful, one of them was manufactured and
delivered to the factory of Taskin Carpet company
in Istanbul, who produces carpets under
Seroni brand and was installed in their factories
in 2016.
May 2017
135
One of the advantages of Swell Soft machinery
over other similar brands is that it is has a patented
drum system that process the material
by linearly moving in completely open position.
Besides, it can be operated after dyeing stage
either from wet to dry, or from dry to dry in
steamy chambers.
Since there is no fabric-to-fabric friction during
process breakage, abrasion, nonhomogen shining
and wastage are completely prevented. At
the end of the process important increases are
seen as softness, having body, free of dust and
fibers, enlivening colors, abrasion resistance,
etc.
Machines cover lesser space, uses lesser energy,
has lower noise, easy to operate and are environmental
friendly. Swell Soft machinery can
be manufactured for the production of fabrics
up to the 5 meters wide.
The company continues its research and development
studies incessantly, and a new versions
of the machine is being developed in cooperation
with one of the leading textile companies in
Turkey. This project is also been supported by
the funds provided by Tubitak, the technologic
research authority in Turkey.

PROFILE
Bilge Home Textile
stands for bed,
bath and kitchen
products
The company
offers a wide
variety of
home textiles
but it has
more in
bed, bath
and kitchen
textiles.
It was formerly a domestic company but especially after
the disperse of the USSR, Bilge started to export products
to the CIS countries, Russian Federation and Ukraine regions
and has established a recognized brand name in
those markets. We asked the success story of the company
to Ahmet Bilge.
What is the brief history of your firm?
Our company Bilge Textile has been active in domestic
market since its foundation in 1976. Since after the
breakaway of Soviets in 1993, we have been keeping our
commercial relations with our customers in CIS countries,
Russia and Ukraine. In 2010 we established a firm, Karna,
in Moscow through which we offer our products and services
in these countries.
May 2017
159
What are your product varieties?
We produce a wide range of home textile products including
towels, textiles for kitchen, bed covers, bed linens,
pillows, quilts and table covers.
Will you inform us about your export markets
and targets?
We mainly sell to Russian market, besides, in others,
Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus. There are other target
markets. We study the marketing opportunities in South
Africa and in Iran.
What about your customer satisfaction policy?
Do you have any additional points to mention?
Turkey has a powerful position in home textile markets in
the world, however, it is not enough to be a supplier for
brands and other companies operating on lower profits. We
have to sell our products with our own brands, not of others.
70 percent of our production is now sold under our
brand name and we are so happy about this.
We pay great attention on this matter. It is a must to
satisfy the customers. We know that we do not sell only
products we also offer services besides. This is an important
issue.
Do you have any activity in fairs held in abroad?
We have been participating in Heimtex Russia for six
years without break. We will be in Central Asian Fair in
Kazakhstan and HomeDeco fair in Ukraine in 2017.
What do you want to say about targets for
2017?
Following a period of three years which was full of problems,
we are hopeful about 2017. The early signals
seem promising. We want to increase our market share
in the countries we are already in by 50 % by producing
qualified products and selling them with right strategies.

PROFILE
Redman Turkey, from
imports to manufacturing
of metallic and flexible
wires
First representing Redman USA in Turkey under the
roof of Dörtaral Inc. for 40 years to import and market in
Turkey, the company started to manufacture the same products
in collaboration with Redman Card Co. 90% made in
Turkey. We asked the story to K. Cemal Aral of the company.
Will you inform us about short history of your
firm?
We have been representing Redman Card Co, a producer of
metallic and flexible wires for 40 years as Dortaral company,
a family import business. We have always been considering
producing these products in Turkey, instead of importing
them. The American company has been operating since
1933 and when they want to move their production to China
we persuade them to come to Istanbul. In 2005 we started
to produce several types of wires in our factory in Istanbul,
as small partner of Redman. At present, these products are
produced in Turkey under Redman USA brand.
What products do you have in your portfolio and
how large is your production capacity?
Chardon wires are our major products that are complementary
and strategic part of Chardon machinery that put effects
on fabrics. Besides, we have other product groups including
cleaning and finishing brushes, fabric transport and powdering
wires, cleaning combs for wool and cotton fibers for
the textile industry. We have other products used in several
industries such as pig brushes used in the cleaning of oil
pipelines, transport wires used in the movement of pistachio
during processing.
The factory is active in two shifts in order to keep delivery
times at minimum. Our annual production capacity is about
1.2 million meters. In order to shorten delivery times, we
consider investing more for 1.5 million meters of production.
161
Will you brief us about production facility?
Weaving, sharpening, cutting of Chardon wires are sensitive
operations that covers so much details. All of the operations,
including cutting of steel wires, felts, rubbers, background
fabrics, sharpening stones are delicately carried out
successfully to answer the needs of our customers in terms
of size and the adaptation of their production machinery.
Quality is our major priority so our customers are completely
satisfied about the harmony and the quality of our products.
Machinery in our factory are imported, especially setting
(weaving) machinery, from Redman America, James
Holdworth UK, and from Holland. We are able to produce
about 40 product variety.
Chardon are sharpened according to the desired effect to
be made on fabrics after they are woven. Sharpening is one
of the important factors determines the performance of
wires. Our special and unique process of sharpening is carried
out on unique machinery patented by Redman that no
other producer has. Besides, Kemal Bahardir, our technical
manager and his team have built new sharpening machinery
to expand our ability.
Raw materials needed for manufacturing are not available in
Turkey. Only some cotton and glue laminated products that
we use as background material are produced by domestic
companies. Steel wires are imported from Bekaert Belgium
and floors from Gomitex Belgium companies.
Will you inform us about your present export
countries and target markets?
We are proud to produce these products and export them
and we spare no effort to maintain our position. Since our
establishment we exported our products to following countries,
Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, China, America, Portugal,
Poland, Italy, Russia, India, Argentina, Egypt, Germany,
Indonesia, Moldavia, Pakistan, South Africa, Thailand,
Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Nepal.
Our target is to maintain our sales in present markets and
expand our market share. We supply both to end users and
machine manufacturers. We have a stronghold in Asian markets.
Our office in Singapore serves our customers directly
and solves their problems on the premises. Our objective is
to settle more in Chinese market. Chinese sell their goods
to the world, we sell to Chinese. We are proud of this.

PROFILE
How is your customer satisfaction policy?
For years we have been supplying Chardon wires to major
firms in textile industry in Turkey. Thanks to their interest,
support and belief in our products we both grow and extend
our operations. We work hard to deserve these appreciations
of our customers and to more for them. Foreign buyers
are more open to new developments. It is important for
us to develop new varieties and support our customers in
these topics. Our firm is at the leading position especially
in developing new products for Chardon presses of technological
fabrics. It is our policy to follow the principles to
identify, analyze, develop and grow with our customers.
Do you participate in international fairs? Will you
inform us about the importance of fairs in your
industry?
Yes, we think that fairs are certainly valuable for us. We participate
in the fairs in Korea, Vietnam, India and China with
our special booth. It is highly valuable to have contacts with
our customers in farther regions of the world during fair
event where we exhibit our products and get their responses
immediately. We participate in ITMA fairs held biannually
in Asia and at every fourth year in Europe.
Do you have targets for the year 2017?
We want to complete our capacity expansion investments
in 2017 for being more innovative and more powerful producer
and to start coming year with a new energy. Our second
target is to be a trendsetter in the most important fair
of Spain that will be held in 2019 and exhibit our products
to our customers.
Is there any other point that you want to add
about your industry and your activities?
We are operating in a fast changing and developing industry.
Consumers are demanding new things from us and fabric
producers have to meet their demands. We also, being on
the side of our customers, have to develop new solutions
for the changing needs of fabric producers as a solution
partner.
