Teenager killed over
enmity with cricketer
Mushfique’s father
• Nazmul Huda Nasim,
Bogra
The teenager son of a central
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad)
leader has been murdered in
Bogra, seven days after a conflict
between him and national cricketer
Mushfiqur Rahim’s father
Mahbub Hamid Tara was settled.
The dead is Mashuk Ferdous,
15, a ninth grader of SOS
Hermann Gmeiner School and
College in the district.
Mashuk’s father advocate
Emdadul Haq, an executive
member of Jasad (Hasanul
Haq Inu-led faction), said
that a teenage neighbour
Nayeem Hossain called and
took Mashuk out of his home
in Bogra town’s Matidali area
around 8:30pm Saturday.
Afterwards, Mashuk was
found lying near his home
with grievous head injuries.
He was taken to a local hospital
where he was declared
dead the same night.
Nayeem, however, went
into hiding after the incident.
Police inspected the crime
scene and detained his parents
for interrogation.
Mashuk was buried after
Asr prayers yesterday.
Emdad blamed an influential
group led by Mushfique’s
father Tara and his brother Mejbah-ul-Hamid,
a local municipality
councillor, for the murder.
He said that a conflict ensued
between him and the duo
over the formation of the governing
body of Matidali High
School as Tara secretly took
the charge as its chairman.
“Even Tara’s aides beat up
two of my followers, who are
members of the governing
body, on the back of the row,”
Emdad said, adding that the issue
was resolved through a police
intervention a week ago.
“The culprits have my son
murdered in a planned way.
The mastermind will be identified
after Nayeem’s arrest,”
he hoped.
When contacted, Tara
claimed that he had no rivalry
with Emdad. •
