Steinernema Feltiae 

Type: Entomopathenogenic Nemotode 

How it works: A special formulation for spraying. The 

nematodes swim through a film of water and enter 

the mine to attack and kill the larva within. 

Species controlled: More than 230 insect pests are 

susceptible, including; black vine weevils, cabbage 

root maggots, codling moth larvae, corn earworm, 

cucumber beetles, cutworms, flea beetles, flea 

larvae, fungus gnat larvae, Japanese beetle larvae, 

root maggots, sod webworms and wireworms, 

leafminer, western flower thrips, all ants but will 

target any other bug they come into contact with on 

their travels. 

When to use: At any time of the year, ideal at 

temperatures above 16°C. Do not use under strong 

lights or when the sprayed crop is likely to dry within 

3 to 4 hours. A series of 4 or 5 weekly sprays is best to 

control a population. 

Preventative: 50 million per 400 m2 or 250 million 

per 2000 m2.

Aphidoletes Aphidimyza 

Type: A small, orange predatory larva, the adult is a 

nocturnal midge fly. 

How it works: Introduced as cocoons from which 

adults emerge. The blister packs enable monitoring 

and mating of adults on release. Adults lay eggs next 

to aphid colonies located by the scent of honeydew, 

larvae develop as tiny orange maggots that feed on 

aphids. One larva can survive on 5 large aphids but 

will kill up to 35 or more. 

Species controlled: Larvae feed on over 60 aphid 

species, including those common in field and 

protected crops within the UK. 

When to use: Between April and September for 

re-cycling generations, however they can be used all 

year round if supplementary lighting is available. 

RATES OF USE: Normally 1 Cocoon per 1 m2 per 

week, for local hotspots increase the rate up to 10 

per 1 m2.

Nesidiocoris Tenuis 

Type: Predatory Bug 

How it works: Nesidiocoris is voracious & hungry. It is 

a generalist predator. Very fast moving and a major 

natural enemy of pests such as whiteflies, moth eggs 

and other small grubs. Also enjoys feeding on other 

pests such as thrips, two spotted mite and aphids, 

making it one of the best generalist predators on the 

market! 

They tend to blend very well with plant material and 

like to hide, so can be difficult to see. Eggs are laid 

into the plant tissue and cannot be seen with the 

naked eye. Eggs hatch after about 7 days depending 

on temperature, nymphs take approximately 14 days 

to develop into adults. Nesidiocoris has a shorter life 

cycle when it feeds on eggs and larvae of whitefly or 

moths, than when feeding predominantly on thrips 

or a wide varieties of mites. 

They breed quickly at temperatures of 23°C and 

above, but generations are much slower below 20°C. 

Both adults and nymphs feed on pests. 

Species controlled: aphids, spidermite, thrips, most 

larvae & most other soft bodied prey 

Application: To apply simply sprinkle the contents 

of bottles evenly over the tops of the plants. 

10-20mL of media per release point is recommended 

to increase mating. When pest levels are initially low 

it is suggested to first apply sterilised Ephestia moth 

eggs over the crop to give Nesidiocoris a food source 

and improve initial establishment. Releases should 

ideally occur in low light conditions, preferably early 

morning or late evening to reduce possible losses of 

adults flying directly to vents. 

IMPORTANT NOTICE 

Nesidiocoris will feed on plant tissues. Symptoms 

due to plant feeding are common and tend to 

occur in the following situations: 

When there is little or no prey available and 

Nesidiocoris numbers are moderate to high 

If high numbers of predatory bugs are present in 

the growing points of plants 

In hot weather conditions Nesidiocoris will breed 

more quickly and take more moisture from plants 

Common feeding symptoms include: 

Spotting and holes in new leaves 

Necrotic feeding rings on soft plant stems and 

flower petioles 

Some signs of feeding are normal and are expected. 

Minor to moderate symptoms will not cause 

damage and are a sign of good predator levels in 

your crop. Economic damage can be avoided by 

regular monitoring. If Nesidiocoris reach high 

levels and numbers are not lowered, economic 

damage may occur including: 

Necrotic rings in the main stem near the heads 

Flower drop 

Uneven setting 

Feeding spots on fruit 

Irregular shaped flowers and/or fruit 

This can be easily controlled by introducing moth 

eggs as an additional food source in the absence of 

pests.

Steinernema Kraussei 

Type: Microscopic nematodes. 

How it works: The Nematode worms seek vine 

Weevil Larvae in moist soil and compost, larger 

weevil grubs are more easily located. Nematodes 

enter the weevil larvae and release a small pellet of 

bacteria that kills the host after a few days. The 

parasitic worms begin to reproduce, releasing 

several thousand more juvenile infective nematodes 

able to find and kill further weevil grubs. 

Species controlled: Black Vine Weevil (Otiorhynchus 

Sulcatus) and other soil living Larvae. 

When to use: Autumn and Spring are the main 

seasons for nematode application, although 

additional treatments may be needed for heated or 

protected crops. It is important that the soil or 

compost is kept moist (not water logged) They will 

work as low as 5°c allowing applications to be made 

whenever the pest is active. Apply as a drench, 

diluter, watering can or through most irrigation 

lines. In all cases remove any fine filters and ensure 

water temperature is between 5 and 15°c.

How it works: Nematodea seek slugs and water snails, 

they enter the body and start to develop from 

infective juveniles to adults. In doing so a pellet of 

bacteria is released that begins to multiply spreading 

through the hosts body. Infected slugs are noticeable

Hypoaspis Miles 


How it works: Mites feed on sciarid fly larvae and 

other 'soil' pests including springtails, thrips pupae 

and root mealybug. At night they move a short 

distance up, on to the plant foliage and will feed on 

mealybug and other soft bodied prey. Mites are very 

mobile and soon distribute themselves throughout 

the crop. Adults are reported to live for several 

months and survive up to 50 days without food, 

making them ideal in situations of very low pest 

populations.

How it works: Adults are around 2mm in length and a 

light brown colour. Larva are worm-like and yellow. 

Capable of flight. Only the larvae will feed on the spider 

mite but are voracious feeders. 

Species controlled: Spider mites including red spider mites 

(Tetranychus urticea), European red mite 

(Panonychus ulmi) and carmine spider mites (Tetranychus

Type: Soil inhabiting nematodes that are lethal insect
