We are delighted to be supporting the AOA UK Airports Safety Week, a national
event with a strong and determined focus on aviation safety. The week-long event
will include activities across the airport for staff as well as passengers and our local
community.
Safety Week will bring all AOA airport members together and is supported by the
UK regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority.
Its still not too late to get involved, please register your interest by emailing the following:

Many events will be taking place at the airport throughout the week.
Remember, you don’t need to book in advance, just come along and take part.

Cake & Safety Day
Join the whole airport community and come
together to gain a better insight into safety at
the airport. Gatehouse 22 will host the
biggest Cake and Safety event to date, with
an array of activities and companies taking
part—you’ll be sure to learn a thing or two
….oh and as always, prizes are up for grabs.

Exchange visit with Airfield Operations and

The Airside Safety Team will be engaging
with staff airside and passengers promoting
safety on the apron.
Gatwick Airport Exchange Visit
Community Outreach & Awareness
Drew Primary School Visit—numerous LCY
departments will be visiting Drew Primary
School to promote safety at the airport. The
school will be conducting a poster competition
with lots of fun prizes to be won.
Airside Andy Community Outreach
Run for FOD event
A unique opportunity to run, walk, hop or
even skip down the runway! Open to all staff
with airside access.

Airport Fire Service
Make Safety Part of your 5 a Day
The Airport Fire Service will be engaging with the airport community throughout the week in
various locations promoting the Haagen Fire Simulator. This will help you to understand when
it is safe to tackle fires. Participants will learn how to undertake routine inspections and follow
correct protocol when using an extinguisher

Wednesday 10 th May 2017
Cake & Safety Day Gatehouse 22, 1000 – 1530
This years Cake & Safety event promises to be bigger and better than ever before! We have over 10
partners taking part who will be promoting safety at the airport. The day will give you an opportunity to
engage with internal/external departments and companies with a chance to learn new skills.
Here’s just a few of the promotions you will see on the day!
Meet Airside Andy!
Discover the virtual reality world of Airside Andy!
Airside Andy is a traffic controller and looks after the
airport with the help of his friends. This game is
designed to introduce the airside environment to young
children in a fun and interactive way.
It has been primarily created to help educate, enhance
creativity and encourage interaction with others through
a safe, vibrant and animated game which recreates the
splendor of travel and the awesomeness of the airport!
Come and visit the Do&Co stall to take part in a
popular timed game! Can you be the quickest
to find all the prohibited items hidden in the
catering trolley? Yummy cakes for the winners!
Come along and meet Menzies and take part in
the ‘SAFE ME OUT’ safety game. Do you think you know your
airside procedures? Keep your hands on the buzzer and try not
to blink!
The British Airways Cityflyer team will be
presenting an interactive display of aircraft parts to provide you
with a better insight into the world of aircraft engineering.
Learn the importance of compliance and safety within the remit
of servicing an aircraft.
DNATA and the Airside Safety Team will be
hosting a collaborative presentation on the benefits of
turnaround observations in ground handling. Focusing on good
behaviours, areas of best practice and human factors.

The Airside Safety Team will be out and about during the week engaging with passengers and visiting
different departments.
Can you ‘Spot the Hazard’ in their interactive game?
All participants will be entered into a draw to win a tablet so keep a look out for the orange high-viz!

Friday 12 th May 2017
Members of staff from Management, Handling Agents, Airfield Operations and
Safety Unit, the Health and Safety team, Airport Fire Service and Customer services
will be attending Drew Primary School to engage with students in a variety of
activities.
Students will get a chance to ask questions and learn about the different careers at
the airport, explore an Airfield Operations vehicle, use the haagen fire
simulator as well as meet Airside Andy who will explain the role of an Air Traffic
Controller.
Our Health & Safety team will promote the use of personal protective equipment
(PPE) and create a show and tell type session where students can try on the
different types of PPE, but more importantly learn about the safety implications of
certain jobs and why they need to be worn.
Poster Competition
On Thursday 25th May we will be
re-visiting Drew Primary School to
judge a themed poster competition
‘Safety at the Airport’
Over 120 children will take part in
the competition, there will be three
top winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd with
all the runners up also getting a gift
for taking part.
The top three children's posters will
be displayed within the terminal of
the airport.
Good Luck to all the children.
Guess the weight of the FOD jar and win a special prize!
10p per guess - all money raised will be donated to Richard House.
Visit the Airside Safety Unit or look out for the team when they visit your department.

The Health and Safety Team throughout the week will be promoting safety and wellbeing. The team
will be engaging with staff and passengers focusing on promoting healthy home/work life balance.
All participants will receive a special gift for taking part and a chance to win a tablet!
