We are delighted to be supporting the <strong>AOA</strong> UK Airports <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Week</strong>, a national<br />

event with a strong and determined focus on aviation safety. The week-long event<br />

will include activities across the airport for staff as well as passengers and our local<br />

community.<br />

<strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Week</strong> will bring all <strong>AOA</strong> airport members together and is supported by the<br />

UK regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority.<br />

Its still not too late to get involved, please register your interest by emailing the following:<br />

airsidesafety@londoncityairport.com or healthandsafetyteam@londoncityairport.com<br />

Many events will be taking place at the airport throughout the week.<br />

Remember, you don’t need to book in advance, just come along and take part.<br />

promoting occupational health and<br />

wellbeing.<br />

Health & <strong>Safety</strong> Team<br />

Health and <strong>Safety</strong> Team will be engaging with<br />

passengers around the airport promoting<br />

mental health and lifestyle coaching<br />

Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Team<br />

The Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Team will be engaging with<br />

staff airside and promoting safety on the<br />

apron.<br />

Cake & <strong>Safety</strong> Day<br />

Join the whole airport community and come<br />

together to gain a better insight into safety at<br />

the airport. Gatehouse 22 will host the<br />

biggest Cake and <strong>Safety</strong> event to date, with<br />

an array of activities and companies taking<br />

part—you’ll be sure to learn a thing or two<br />

….oh and as always, prizes are up for grabs.<br />

The Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Team will be engaging<br />

with staff airside and passengers promoting<br />

safety on the apron.<br />

Gatwick Airport Exchange Visit<br />

Community Outreach & Awareness<br />

Drew Primary School Visit—numerous LCY<br />

departments will be visiting Drew Primary<br />

School to promote safety at the airport. The<br />

school will be conducting a poster competition<br />

with lots of fun prizes to be won.<br />

Airside Andy Community Outreach<br />

Run for FOD event<br />

A unique opportunity to run, walk, hop or<br />

even skip down the runway! Open to all staff<br />

with airside access.<br />

Airport Fire Service<br />

Make <strong>Safety</strong> Part of your 5 a Day<br />

The Airport Fire Service will be engaging with the airport community throughout the week in<br />

various locations promoting the Haagen Fire Simulator. This will help you to understand when<br />

it is safe to tackle fires. Participants will learn how to undertake routine inspections and follow<br />

correct protocol when using an extinguisher


Wednesday 10 th May 2017<br />

Cake & <strong>Safety</strong> Day Gatehouse 22, 1000 – 1530<br />

This years Cake & <strong>Safety</strong> event promises to be bigger and better than ever before! We have over 10<br />

partners taking part who will be promoting safety at the airport. The day will give you an opportunity to<br />

engage with internal/external departments and companies with a chance to learn new skills.<br />

Here’s just a few of the promotions you will see on the day!<br />

Meet Airside Andy!<br />

Discover the virtual reality world of Airside Andy!<br />

Airside Andy is a traffic controller and looks after the<br />

airport with the help of his friends. This game is<br />

designed to introduce the airside environment to young<br />

children in a fun and interactive way.<br />

It has been primarily created to help educate, enhance<br />

creativity and encourage interaction with others through<br />

a safe, vibrant and animated game which recreates the<br />

splendor of travel and the awesomeness of the airport!<br />

Come and visit the Do&Co stall to take part in a<br />

popular timed game! Can you be the quickest<br />

to find all the prohibited items hidden in the<br />

catering trolley? Yummy cakes for the winners!<br />

Come along and meet Menzies and take part in<br />

the ‘SAFE ME OUT’ safety game. Do you think you know your<br />

airside procedures? Keep your hands on the buzzer and try not<br />

to blink!<br />

The British Airways Cityflyer team will be<br />

presenting an interactive display of aircraft parts to provide you<br />

with a better insight into the world of aircraft engineering.<br />

Learn the importance of compliance and safety within the remit<br />

of servicing an aircraft.<br />

DNATA and the Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Team will be<br />

hosting a collaborative presentation on the benefits of<br />

turnaround observations in ground handling. Focusing on good<br />

behaviours, areas of best practice and human factors.<br />

The Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Team will be out and about during the week engaging with passengers and visiting<br />

different departments.<br />

Can you ‘Spot the Hazard’ in their interactive game?<br />

All participants will be entered into a draw to win a tablet so keep a look out for the orange high-viz!


Friday 12 th May 2017<br />

Members of staff from Management, Handling Agents, Airfield Operations and<br />

<strong>Safety</strong> Unit, the Health and <strong>Safety</strong> team, Airport Fire Service and Customer services<br />

will be attending Drew Primary School to engage with students in a variety of<br />

activities.<br />

Students will get a chance to ask questions and learn about the different careers at<br />

the airport, explore an Airfield Operations vehicle, use the haagen fire<br />

simulator as well as meet Airside Andy who will explain the role of an Air Traffic<br />

Controller.<br />

Our Health & <strong>Safety</strong> team will promote the use of personal protective equipment<br />

(PPE) and create a show and tell type session where students can try on the<br />

different types of PPE, but more importantly learn about the safety implications of<br />

certain jobs and why they need to be worn.<br />

Poster Competition<br />

On Thursday 25th May we will be<br />

re-visiting Drew Primary School to<br />

judge a themed poster competition<br />

‘<strong>Safety</strong> at the Airport’<br />

Over 120 children will take part in<br />

the competition, there will be three<br />

top winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd with<br />

all the runners up also getting a gift<br />

for taking part.<br />

The top three children's posters will<br />

be displayed within the terminal of<br />

the airport.<br />

Good Luck to all the children.<br />

Guess the weight of the FOD jar and win a special prize!<br />

10p per guess - all money raised will be donated to Richard House.<br />

Visit the Airside <strong>Safety</strong> Unit or look out for the team when they visit your department.<br />

Health and <strong>Safety</strong> Team<br />

Make <strong>Safety</strong> Part of your 5 a Day<br />

The Health and <strong>Safety</strong> Team throughout the week will be promoting safety and wellbeing. The team<br />

will be engaging with staff and passengers focusing on promoting healthy home/work life balance.<br />

All participants will receive a special gift for taking part and a chance to win a tablet!<br />

Make sure you keep an eye out for them!
