waters of the English Channel are calmer, and ideal for
swimming, boating and paddle boarding. For the
ultimate adrenalin-rush, explore Devon’s rocky coastline on
a coasteering expedition - scramble over rocks and jump
from great heights into the sea to explore secluded deep
sea caves! Join an experienced instructor from one of the
many adventure centres operating on both coastlines.
Back on dry-land, over 150 miles of National Cycle Network
criss-cross the Devon countryside, so whatever your ability,
one of the best ways to explore Devon has to be by bike.
Follow the 26 mile purpose-built Exe Estuary Trail along
the path of the River Exe as it winds its way from the city
of Exeter through historic maritime towns and villages out
to sea at Exmouth and Dawlish. Train and ferry links mean
smaller sections of this mainly flat, family-friendly route can
be easily explored.
Mountain bikers can descend through Devon’s forests on
hand crafted trails, such as those at Haldon Forest Park
near Exeter, or tackle the challenging inclines and dramatic
descents of Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks.
