What is TRUVADA for PrEP
(Pre-exposure Prophylaxis)?
TRUVADA is a prescription medicine that can be
used for PrEP to help reduce the risk of getting HIV-1
infection when used together with safer sex practices.
This use is only for adults who are at high risk of getting
HIV-1 through sex. This includes HIV-negative men who
have sex with men and who are at high risk of getting
infected with HIV-1 through sex, and male-female sex
partners when one partner has HIV-1 infection and
the other does not.
Ask your healthcare provider if you have questions
about how to prevent getting HIV-1. Always practice
safer sex and use condoms to lower the chance of
sexual contact with body fluids. Never reuse or share
needles or other items that have body fluids on them.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
I What is the most important information I should
know about TRUVADA for PrEP?
Before taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your
risk of getting HIV-1 infection:
u You must be HIV-negative. You must get tested
to make sure that you do not already have
HIV-1 infection. Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP
to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 unless you are
confirmed to be HIV-negative.
u Many HIV-1 tests can miss HIV-1 infection in
a person who has recently become infected.
If you have flu-like symptoms, you could have
recently become infected with HIV-1. Tell your
healthcare provider if you had a flu-like illness
within the last month before starting TRUVADA
for PrEP or at any time while taking TRUVADA
for PrEP. Symptoms of new HIV-1 infection
include tiredness, fever, joint or muscle aches,
headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash,
night sweats, and/or enlarged lymph nodes in
the neck or groin.
While taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your
risk of getting HIV-1 infection:
u You must continue using safer sex practices.
Just taking TRUVADA for PrEP may not keep
you from getting HIV-1.
u You must stay HIV-negative to keep taking
TRUVADA for PrEP.
u To further help reduce your risk of getting HIV-1:
• Know your HIV-1 status and the HIV-1 status of
your partners.
• Get tested for HIV-1 at least every 3 months or
when your healthcare provider tells you.
• Get tested for other sexually transmitted
infections. Other infections make it easier for
HIV-1 to infect you.
• Get information and support to help reduce risky
sexual behavior.
• Have fewer sex partners.
• Do not miss any doses of TRUVADA. Missing
doses may increase your risk of getting HIV-1
infection.
• If you think you were exposed to HIV-1, tell your
healthcare provider right away.
u If you do become HIV-1 positive, you need more
medicine than TRUVADA alone to treat HIV-1.
TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment
for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only
TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat
over time.
TRUVADA can cause serious side effects:
u Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic
acidosis), which is a serious medical emergency.
Symptoms of lactic acidosis include weakness or
being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain,
being short of breath or fast breathing, nausea,
vomiting, stomach-area pain, cold or blue hands
and feet, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, and/or fast
or abnormal heartbeats.
u Serious liver problems. Your liver may become
large and tender, and you may develop fat in your
liver. Symptoms of liver problems include your skin
or the white part of your eyes turns yellow, dark
“tea-colored” urine, light-colored stools, loss of
appetite for several days or longer, nausea, and/or
stomach-area pain.
u You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis
or serious liver problems if you are female,
very overweight (obese), or have been taking
TRUVADA for a long time. In some cases, these
serious conditions have led to death. Call your
healthcare provider right away if you have any
symptoms of these conditions.
u Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection. If you
also have HBV and take TRUVADA, your hepatitis
may become worse if you stop taking TRUVADA.
Do not stop taking TRUVADA without first talking to
your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider
tells you to stop taking TRUVADA, they will need to
watch you closely for several months to monitor
your health. TRUVADA is not approved for the
treatment of HBV.
I Who should not take TRUVADA for PrEP?
Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you already
have HIV-1 infection or if you do not know your
HIV-1 status. If you are HIV-1 positive, you need to
take other medicines with TRUVADA to treat HIV-1.
TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for
HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA,
your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time.
Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you also take
lamivudine (Epivir-HBV) or adefovir (HEPSERA).
Please see Important Facts about TRUVADA for PrEP including important warnings
on the following pages.

interview / GET OUT! MAGAZINE >> GETOUTMAG.COM
Amanda,congratulations
on your new book.
Thank you so much.
I love the name, “Doll
Parts.” Who thought of
the name?
My manager suggested
it. I like it too. It’s good.
I mean, I do look like a
doll. I have doll parts.
What is your favorite
part in the book?
Well, I like the beauty
tips. I’m a very visual
person. I really like
pictures a lot. When I
look at other people’s
books I always gravitate
towards pretty pictures.
The pictures mean a lot
to me, and I love the
cover (by Rob Lebow) so
much.
Did you have a big part
in the writing of it?
I mean, it’s my story.
A ghost writer had a
passion to write it. He
interviewed me for
two years, over time.
We spent a lot of time
together with him asking
me questions, and he
wrote my story from the
interviews.
Aside from the book,
what have you been
up to?
I am doing new music.
I’m working on a song
with Cazwell, and there
are four new songs that I
recorded for my
upcoming EP. There
should be a single
coming out soon!
I love glamour, and make
a lot of my costumes. I
spend a great deal of
time stoning outfits and
accessories.
You do that by yourself?
That’s so time
consuming.
Someone makes the
outfit, and I’ll stick on
the stones. It’s a lot of
work. I do the shoes and
the bag. I love matching
things. They’re great.
Well, you are always
dressed fabulous.
Thanks! I like keeping
busy.
You still perform a lot?
Oh yeah, definitely. I was
in Rome a few weeks ago,
and just got back from
Miami. I am heading
to Texas tomorrow for
Splash Pride.
You also work a lot with
Cazwell, correct?
Yes, he wrote most of
my album, I…Amanda
Lepore, and we are
currently working on a
new song together.
FRONT & BACK BOOK COVERS
So, since your book was
written over a twoyear
period, what has
changed in your life?
The book was finished
last year, but since it
started turning more into
a photo book, it took
more time to produce.

The story itself ended
around the year
2000 when I started
performing. It mostly
deals with my childhood,
moving to NYC,
becoming part of the
club scene and working
with David LaChapelle,
I don’t think much has
changed, I am still doing
a lot of what I did back
then, but I am performing
more now, singing and
doing Burlesque-style
shows, which I really have
fun doing!
With all the issues
going on with this
new administration,
how do you suppose
the future looks for
the transgender
community?
He’s doing really awful
things to a lot of people,
and to a lot of different
groups. I don’t really
know, since I never really
had a problem with
anything, but it’s kind
of scary. I am not so
political, but I know that I
should not like him.
Any sneak preview on
your new album?
I recorded a David Bowie
cover, “The Jean Genie”,
and three other new
songs. Hoping to have a
new song released over
the next month or so.
Is there anything that
you wish to promote?
Just my book for now,
and stay tuned for new
music. Follow me on
Instagram for the latest
parties and where I am
traveling to. When I am
in town, you can usually
catch me at Battle Hymn,
Strut, The Box, Gotham,
and On Top will be
starting in a few weeks.
PART TWO
Just Friends
I was able to keep my
feelings for A at bay while
our friendship continued
to blossom, like the single
rose that blossomed on my
bedside table.
After “American Horror
Story” ended, we found
new ways to spend our
time. Sometimes we went
out for drinks; sometimes
we watched a movie; once,
I got two free tickets to a
wine tasting.
Of course, neither of us
used the spit buckets, so
by the end of the night we
were wasted. We stumbled
onto the train, and I realized
he was coming home with
me when he didn’t get off at
his stop.
We got back to my room,
and I threw my black
leather Frye briefcase
onto the floor. “I think
I’m getting bigger,”
he said. I turned
around and saw
him taking off his
pants, thinking he
was coming on to
me - but he was
completely flaccid.
“I’ve been gaining
so much muscle,
none of my pants
fit anymore,” he
clarified, before
collapsing face first
onto my bed.
His legs were
muscular and
hairy, and his ass
stretched his briefs
to perfection. My palms got
sweaty.
I took off my pants, lying
down next to him. He
started scratching my back,
sighing. “I’m not used to
drinking this much,” he said
happily, putting his arm
around my waist. I turned to
him, our faces close - but he
was already out cold.
I saw him again that
weekend. We had New
Year’s Eve plans. (I wore
a stunning black deep V/
shoulderless top with black
short shorts.)
“I don’t really know anyone
here,” he whispered to me,
sipping a glass of wine.
“I don’t really like anyone
here,” I whispered back, on
my third (or fourth) glass of
champagne. We smiled at
each other, sticking next to
each other the whole night.
Later, champagne in hand,
we counted down from
10. When we got to one, I
turned and kissed A, softly,
on the lips. He didn’t pull
away, but when I finally did
he looked shocked. And not
in a good way.
“Sorry,” I said, finishing
off my champagne. “Just
a friendly peck between
friends.” He relaxed, and
I realized any attraction I
picked up from him was all
in my head. A only saw us
as friends. That’s all he ever
saw us as, and all he ever
would.
I put on my knee-length
wool coat, legs freezing,
and started walking
home. It was my own
fault, I knew that.
He never led me
on. I led myself
on.
My phone
CUBA
A PARADISE READY TO BE… REDISCOVERED
Swimwear by CARIOCAWEAR
Cuba, believed to be the only
place left in our hemisphere
that the Western world has not
touched, is slowly reawakening
to the outside world. Known as
the pearl of the Caribbean, it
is a land of sensual people and
raw beauty. As a gay American,
there is no better time to go
visit this paradise and see
history in the making as you
discover its vibrant culture,
history and LGBT community
- a community that is thriving
with a full-time gay bar,
gay weekly parties, cultural
performance exchanges
between Cuba and the USA, art
expositions and the annual Gay
Pride march held each May.
While the U.S. embargo is still
in place, Americans still have
to travel under one of the 12
visas permitted by the U.S.
government (created to make
it easier for Americans to go
to the island). The easiest to
obtain is the people-to-people
visa, which exists as part of the
educational activities category,
allowing any American to
legally travel to the island
provided they engage in a
full-time schedule of activities
intended to enhance contact
with the Cuban people and
resulting in a meaningful
interaction between the
traveler and individuals in Cuba.

Did we mention that Cuba has a
vibrant LGBT nightlife, and the
men are hot? As captured in the
photos accompanying this article
by photographer Kevin Slack
(snappedshots.com), the beauty
of Cuban people is out of this
world! A vibrant mix of European,
African and Caribbean blood, the
combinations are a photographer’s
dream come true—so much so that
international talent scouts arrive
every year to pick new models to
take abroad to work for the hottest
modeling agencies.
In addition, Cuba excels in the
arts, including dance, music,
theater, painting and even drag
shows. A typical night of dancing
and mingling at the gay clubs is
preceded by an hour and a half
of a cabaret style, high-energy
performance art show. It is mind
blowing and unique, something
that has to been seen in person to
believe.
In addition to the gay bar, gogo
filled clubs and drag queens
giving performances filled with
emotion and power, the action in
Cuba happens on the streets. Due
to a lack of money, not everyone
can pay a $3 cover charge, so the
streets in the Vedado (the gay
area) and the Malecon area by the
Hotel Nacional become a street
party and cruising intersection.
But no worries, it is legal to drink
alcohol on the streets of Cuba 24
hours a day. Just sit down with a
bottle and you are sure to make
lots of friends!
But Cuba is much more than
its vibrant LGBT nightlife. It is
a country filled with mysticism,
gorgeous beaches, an openair
museum of periods in time,
crumbling masterpieces of
architecture and a population that
has much to offer in the way of
their friendship and time.

As a tourist, without the option to
use your cell phone or be on WiFi
will transport you back to a time
where there were less distractions
and human interaction was the
only way to be “social,” something
rare that makes Cuba so special to
the outside world.
So pack your bags, get yourself
a local guide to show you
the country and you will be
mesmerized by the sizzling flavor
that only Cubans know how to
give. Be ready to be transported to
a country like no other!
