For tubeless amps, which are cheaper and often lighter, you can also choose
digital-modeling amps, which use computer modeling to create their sounds.
Digital amps tend to be more expensive, but they have a wealth of effects and
flexibility associated with them. Modeling technology has the advantage of
being able to imitate sounds, so modeling amps can emulate a tube-amp
sound quite convincingly.
Line 6 is an amp manufacturer that led the market in modeling technology
with their Flextone series of amps, shown in Figure 15-11.

Remembering the Good Old Days
If you decide you like the amps of yore, you still have a choice in buying an
actual vintage amp or one that’s designed to be exactly like an older amp.
The advantage here is that modern manufacturing methods use high-quality
electrical components and a quality control standard that guarantees your
amp works hassle free.
