Part IV contains the style chapters, which examine
the various styles of blues throughout history. Chapter
11 starts with the roots in the Mississippi Delta and
the acoustic guitar of Robert Johnson. It then moves East
to catch the lively ragtime-influenced strains of the
Piedmont school. Chapter 12 is the heart of today’s blues:
classic electric blues. Chapter 13 visits the other classic
period of the blues — blues rock — which started with
Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page. Chapter 13 closes
with the metal movement (yes, they played the blues, too)
and the 21st century players.
