The two-beat feel
The two-beat feel came to the blues from Dixieland and big-band jazz and
from novelty tunes. The lively pace of this style makes you want to jump,
unlike the more sedate blues grooves. The two-beat feel, also called cut time
or cut shuffle, is characterized by a pronounced boom-chick, boom-chick feel,
where the booms are bass notes (usually alternating between the root and
the fifth of the chord), and the chicks are the chords, shown in Figure 5-16.
