to Cathedral City - Memorial 

Weekend 2017

Caribbean 3-day/6 parties’ concert

Philadelphia, PA, April 26, 2017--Breaking 

Glass Pictures has acquired North 

American rights to John Butler’s jaunty, 

entertaining comedy/drama HANDSOME 

DEVIL starring Andrew Scott (Sherlock, 

SPECTRE). Breaking Glass acquired 

the North American rights to the film 

in March in a deal negotiated between 

Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Peter 

Van Steemberg of ICM Partners. Breaking 

Glass is planning a limited theatrical in 

New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, 

and other select cities on June 2; the 

film streets on DVD and all major North 

American TVOD platforms June 6, 2017. 

HANDSOME DEVIL held its world premiere 

at the Toronto International Film 

Festival, its US premiere at NewFest, and 

went on to play the Glasgow Film Festival, 

the AFI European Showcase, and the 

Miami International Film Festival. 

Along with Scott, HANDSOME DEVIL 

also stars Fionn O’Shea (THE SIEGE OF 

JADOTVILLE), Nicholas Galitzine (HIGH 

STRUNG), Moe Dunford (“Vikings”), and 

Michael McElhatton (“Game of Thrones”). 

The film’s production team includes Producers 

Rebecca O’Flanagan, Robert Walpole, 

and Co-Producers Claire McCaughley, 

and Sarah Gunn. 

HANDSOME DEVIL follows Ned, the 

bullied outsider, and Conor, the new boy 

and star athlete, who are forced to room 

together at their boarding school. The boys 

take an instant dislike to each other, and 

seem destined to remain enemies until an 

English teacher, Mr. Sherry, begins to drill 

into them the value of finding one’s own 

voice. This lesson, however, isn’t appreciated 

by everyone, particularly rugby coach 

Pascal, who has his own agenda and harbors 

some deep suspicions about the boys’ 

teacher. 

The film is written and directed by John 

Butler. In 2011, Butler directed the IFTA 

award-winning sketch show Your Bad 

Self for RTE, followed by the 2012 feature 

IMMATURKTY FOR CHARITY starring 

Brendan & Domhnall Gleeson. In 2014, 

Butler directed and co-wrote THE STAG 

(aka BACHELOR WEEKEND), starring 

Andrew Scott, which premiered at the 

Toronto International Film Festival, and 

won Butler the DGA Director’s Finders 

Series. Butler is also a novelist, his debut 

novel THE TENDERLOIN was published 

by Picador and short-listed at the 

Irish Book Awards, and writer, his work 

appearing in The Irish Times, The Dublin 

Review, The San Francisco Chronicle, and 

on NPR.

Well in the Desert update 

Hi everyone............. 

The Well is not closed; we are just mobile now. We are not letting losing our office 

building defeat or demoralize us, we are rising way above and actually increasing our 

services. We have gone mobile and you will see our vans out early in the morning 

serving coffee and sweet rolls, water and fruit, along with needed articles of clothing 

and more to those homeless and on the streets, and you will see our vans out picking 

people up from downtown and other places to take to hot meals we still have daily at 

our church sites. We are expanding these services to include Saturday’s and Sunday’s. 

We are in the process of figuring out the best way of offering mobile shower services 

and that will be down the road a piece. And we are confident that those from the City 

who have said help is on the way will help find a building that will serve as a cooling 

center during the grueling summer days. If you have donations we will pick up;

important net neutrality is to our future. 

Today when a person or small business 

uses a web site, facebook or other Internet 

device, our content is delivered as fast 

as any other’s site. We the people have 

the power and if we ask corporations to 

police it, we will loose more than access. 

We will lose the truth. Please let your 

congress people know you stand for Net 

Neutrality. Remember my phone and 

email is always available to you if you 

would like to learn more. Will 

“Don’t kill net neutrality. Preserve the 

FCC’s Title II authority to protect the 

internet.” 

Grassroots activists won an epic victory 

two years ago when together we pushed 

the Federal Communications Commission 

(FCC) to pass strong net neutrality rules. 

Hundreds of thousands of CREDO members 

and millions of others fought for years 

to protect the free and open internet with 

net neutrality – the principle that internet 

providers must treat all users’ content 

equally. In 2015, together we finally won. 

Now, Trump’s FCC chairman is quietly 

moving to scrap the rules. Earlier this 

month, news reports revealed that FCC 

Chairman Ajit Pai wants to give up the 

FCC’s role in protecting internet users and 

instead ask companies to voluntarily police 

themselves.1 If he’s successful, the hardfought 

victory to protect our rights on the 

internet will be lost. 

Tell FCC Chairman Ajit Pai: Don’t kill net 

neutrality. Click here to sign the petition. 

Just as telephone companies connect callers 

in the order received without regard to how 

much they can pay, the internet under net 

neutrality is classified as a protected utility. 

Internet providers can’t block content, 

slow traffic, or create “fast lanes” to prioritize 

websites whose owners pay more.2 

Net neutrality protects our privacy, keeps 

broadband prices competitive and helps 

new companies to innovate. That’s why 

consumer groups and internet businesses 

like Google, Facebook and Netflix all 

strongly support net neutrality and oppose 

Pai’s plan to kill it.3 

Pai’s plan for the internet looks a lot like 

Paul Ryan’s plan to repeal Obamacare. 

In both cases, Republicans are trying to 

replace a popular policy with an impractical 

and deceptive proposal. Like the 

Obamacare repeal plan, Pai’s net neutrality 

“fix” would help a few corporations earn 

more profits by eliminating protections for 

the rest of us. Pai’s plan would ask telecom 

companies to voluntarily pledge to follow 

the principles of net neutrality and task the 

Federal Trade Commission with punishing 

offenders. As one commenter noted, the 

idea that Pai will get every large and small 

internet service provider to voluntarily put 

strong open internet provisions in their 

terms of service agreements is “pure nonsense.”

THE GALEN- PALM SPRINGS ART MUSEUM- PALM 

DESERT 

The Galen, Palm Springs Art Museum, and 

Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden has been 

open for about 3 years. 

The building located at 72-165 Highway 

111 was formerly the Palm Desert Visitors 

Bureau. To enter the Museum take the 

first exit on the west side of El Paseo on the 

South side of 111. The Galen is a wonderful 

adjunct to the Palm Springs art museum 

and an opportunity to view both art and 

landscaping in the sculpture garden. Another 

example of the rich cultural opportunity 

we have to appreciate world renown 

art, living in the Palm Springs area. 

The current exhibit is a fascinating show 

featuring the works of Pat Lasch, titled, 

“Journeys of the Heart”. Pat Lasch has been 

practicing her art for past 40 years. She initially 

began working in her father’s bakery 

in New York City. Here she learned the art 

of pastry decorating. She has carried this 

into her work as a visual artist. Some of her 

works are actual art pieces of pastry design. 

Elaborate cakes and petite fours that look 

good enough to eat are actually made from 

wood and acrylic paint. The most unusual 

of her art is that of fine lace and fabric 

embellishment. One of the displays is a 

life-size installment of gowns. As viewed 

from a distance they look like fashion design. 

However, there is no fabric in them. 

What appears to be flowing fabric is created 

by acrylic paint that is smoothed over a flat 

surface in several coats and then released 

and put formed around a manikin which 

gives it the look of fabric. In addition to 

the flat fabric, there are embellishments of 

fine lace which is created using acrylic paint 

put through a pastry decorator creating 

a variety of artist created lace patterns to 

which there are also some pearls and stones 

added. There is an accompanying video 

of Pat Lasch demonstrating the creation of 

her work on view in a room adjoining the 

gallery 

This show is unique for the artistic and creative 

use of traditional art media to create 

a different sculpture approach. The show 

will be open at the Galen until October 15, 

2017. Visiting the Galen is an enjoyable 

cultural experience. Taking a relaxing walk 

through the exterior landscaping and sculpture 

in the outdoor sculpture garden and 

viewing the art in the gallery is a fulfilling 

experience.

I want to write about happy things. I’m 

tired of trying to make sense of the bull 

shit drama in the world today. Unclench 

and fart, let it go. I want to write about 

happy days. Not the television show, just 

happiness. It’s the greatest feeling. It cost 

nothing. It just gathers around your souls 

and you can’t help but to feel giddy. Like a 

teenage girl in love. 

Happy people don’t kill other people, or the 

less extent of negative behavior. There is 

something to say about emotions that are 

free. Any time you get something for free 

aren’t you on cloud nine? Well, imagine 

getting happiness for free. Double whammy, 

baby! 

Happiness equals hope to me. Hope is a 

good thing. Hope makes you want to live 

life to its fullest. There have been times, 

and very recently, where that wasn’t the 

case for me. I didn’t want to live. Well, it 

turns out that medication to make you feel 

good can also counter act and destroy you. 

Like people. 

People can be like a bad cocktail. It’s a 

strange mix that can mess with you at any 

moment. Me, Myself, and I are lazy and 

consider that behavior work! Lots of work, 

so I stay away and yet you still get sucked 

in. Well, that stops now. The one time I 

don’t want to be sucked. Go suck someone 

else, or better yet, save your sucking for the 

bedroom. That is why you are on Grindr, 

right? 

Life is what you make it. Make it good!

Armed Forces Day - Saturday, May 20 

(Palm Springs, CA) April 26, 2017... The 

Desert Winds Freedom Band (DWFB) is 

proud to present “Our American Heritage,” 

an Armed Forces Day FREE concert 

event on Saturday, May 20 at 7:00p.m. 

Through a generous gift from Mayor 

Pro-Tem Greg Pettis of Cathedral City, 

the concert will be held at Palm Desert 

Civic Center Park. This beautiful expansive 

park is located at 43900 San Pablo 

Avenue and has plenty of FREE parking. 

Enjoy the beautiful balmy summer evening 

and bring a picnic dinner, chairs and 

blankets to enjoy a spectacular evening of 

Americana and Patriotic music dedicated 

to honoring our men and women in the 

Armed Forces. 

Booths and representatives from a variety 

of Veteran and Armed Forces organizations 

will be on-site along with a display of 

a large number of American Flags on loan 

from The Healing Field. 

“In honor of Armed Forces Day, I have 

chosen upbeat and rousing patriotic music 

representing our country’s military history. 

We hope to inspire all who attend

THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis 

Today I am sitting in the Armenian Church on 

Monterey honoring the 102nd anniversary of 

the Armenian Genocide by the Turkish Empire. 

Today also is a Remembrance Day for the Jewish 

Holocaust by the Nazis. Amazing with these 

days just last week we heard the President’s Press 

Secretary say the Adolph Hitler did not use poison 

gas on the Jews. Makes you wonder with 

the talk of the border wall, round up of Hispanics 

and the rise of private for- profit prisons if we 

are not headed back on a dangerous path? 

Arkansas Governor Hutchinson had made a 

bold attempt to put to death 10-15 convicted 

murderers In a multi-day orgy of death. The 

Supreme Court stopped many of them but in 

his first vote on the court Justice Gorsuch voted 

to kill one of them. Not a good omen. How are 

we, the only developed country in the western 

world still using capital punishment? 

start? 

This week the President plans on announcing 

his tax plans - Democrats have already stated no 

action on that until he releases his tax returns. 

Also the government is set to shut down unless 

Congress acts and Trump is demanding money 

for his border wall. I hope you don’t depend on 

your social security check. 

There are still 100’s of ambassadorships, lower 

level cabinet officials and more Undesignated. 

Who knew that his son-in-law could do it all.

the President. He said an armada of our ships 

was sailing towards North Korea when in reality 

they were sailing in the opposite way. He said 

the Chinese would stop coal sales to the Koreans 

and yet the very next day coal ships were welcomed 

at a Chinese port. 

USA Today is reporting on how lobbyist who 

are tied to either Trump or Pence are raking 

in the money. The Times is reporting on 250 

residential projects Trump is involved in may 

reap benefits to changes in laws or simple text 

amendments. The President’s daughter, Ivanka, 

signed new patent agreements with the China 

the day after a state dinner she attended with the 

Chinese President. 

Trumps approval ratings after a disastrous first 

100 days are stuck in the 20’s and House Speaker 

Paul Ryan is below that! When does the outrage

the COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the 

first openly gay elected city council 

members In Riverside County. He has

League of Cities and the League of 

California Cities and as President of 

the Southern CA Association of Governments.
