This issue I thought I’d concentrate on some of the
great events you can see on The Stade Open Space
during this summer season. The good news is that they
are all FREE! Hundreds of years ago this area was
gifted by the Crown to the people of Hastings (the
Common Man) and as such no one can make a profit
when putting any form of entertainment on this area!
On Saturday June 3rd and Sunday June the 4th I’m
putting on the Hastings Winkle Club Jazz and Blues
Festival on The Stade site. It’s a charity concert and
all funds from it go to the famous old Hastings Charity
- The Winkle Club.

donations to a whole host of local
charities and good causes. This year it amounts to
almost £30,000!
Eight of the Old Town’s best live music venues are
sponsoring it: The Albion, The Anchor, The Jenny Lind,
The Old Market, The Dragon Bar, Porters Wine Bar,
The London Trader and The Lord Nelson. From Friday
2nd June they will be providing Jazz, Blues or Funky
Soul bands, as well as giving money towards the acts
on the main stage. We've also got sponsorship from
many local businesses including this very magazine:

Saturday 3rd June I’ll be presenting on the Stade
open Space - 2pm: The Helen Sharpe Jazz Quartet
- 3pm: The Red Butler Blues Band, 4.30pm: J a n e
Reeves Triple Delight, 3 piece female vocals and
band, 6pm: The legend that is Herbie Flowers, with
Mike Hatchard and band. 7.30pm - 9pm: Stade
Saturdays (HBC funded) has kindly sponsored me to
present the uncrowned Queen of Jazz, our very own
Liane Carroll! A full set - not to be missed!
On Sunday 4th June we open at 10am. Come and
join us for a Jazz Breakfast. Choose from a selection
of Breakfast Baps, teas of coffee and listen to The
20 strong Invicta Jazz Orchestra. At 2pm I have
Hexagonal - 6 of the very best jazz instrumentalists in
the country! These guys have played behind many
of the big names in music. 3pm: The Greg Coulson
Blues Band, at only 25 Greg has played with The
Selector and played lead in the west end show: The
Mike performing with his band on Fat Tuesday 2017

Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined. 5pm: T o n y
OMalley band. (ex 10cc, Arrival and British Soul
sensations Kokomo! 6.30: Still to be confirmed but
hopefully a special soul singing lady all the way from
New York. Watch the press for details.
Please remember this is all FREE ENTRY, but we will
be rattling buckets on site and around the pubs,
so please give generously. We will have our own
licensed bar on site and our own food outlets - all

Stade Saturdays on the Stade Open Space will be
presenting an array of international events with an
emphasis on circus and street theatre as well as the
usual mix of music and dance. Highlights for me
include: ÓcabrazÓka’s Hastings BrasilFest - a family
event from 2pm on Sat June 10th - take part, make
your own drum, dress up and play, dance, move, smile,
and join in the Óca’s Grande “Roda de Capoeira”.
Saturday June 17th 11am - 1pm: 1066 Cycling
Festival including the Savage Skills Stunt team who
will be performing on the hour throughout the festival
and the LADINAMO FUNKY BIKE BAND. For other dates
and shows throughout the summer pick up the Stade
Saturdays programme from Hastings Tourist Information
Centre - Hastings Seafront.
