<strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong> is DATAOnline’s web based editing solution which provides customers the unique ability to<br />

easily edit documents to create custom pieces using <strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong>’s rich set of editing capabilities, including:<br />

Layout changes<br />

• Moving objects (text boxes, image boxes, etc.) on a page<br />

• Resizing objects (including fitting modes and scaling)<br />

• Rotating objects (including an item within its container box)<br />

• Creating and deleting objects<br />

• Changing the layering of objects (i.e. their order along the Z axis)<br />

Appearance changes<br />

• Font changes, including color, style and paragraph alignment<br />

• Border width and color<br />

• Background color<br />

Content changes<br />

• Live text typing<br />

• Assigning and replacing images<br />

<strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong> also allows form designers to lock specific aspects of the documents to ensure their companies<br />

brand standards are met while still allowing users to create customized documents.<br />

This guide provides instructions on performing frequently-used editing operations.<br />

Introduction to <strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong><br />

<strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong> items are ordered in the same way as other customizable items.<br />

Enter a quantity and click<br />

The Item Customization screen will appear. Complete any fields that may be required. For this example<br />

we do not need to complete any fields. To begin customizing your item click<br />

The <strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong> window will open.<br />

<strong>Free</strong> <strong>Edit</strong> consists of a main area that displays the document, and a wide range of editing tools. The<br />

available tools are displayed on the left (buttons) and top (content sensitive) menu bars.<br />

Note: The Maintain Transformation tag is applied to all graphics, it cannot be removed.<br />

The Left Menu Bar<br />

Help - The Help pane provides context-sensitive help on the currently<br />

selected object. For example, a list of operations you can perform on a<br />

selected graphic box.<br />

Toolbox – The Toolbox pane buttons allow you to perform the follow<br />

operations.<br />

Note: These buttons and/or their functions may not always be<br />

available to you<br />

Object Mode – Selects a graphic or text box. Box is outlined in blue.<br />

Content Mode – Selects the graphic or text within a box. Box is outlined in red.<br />

Rotate – Rotates the selected graphic or text<br />

Add Text – Add a new text box and type in the desired text.<br />

Add Graphic – Add a new graphic box<br />

Add Line – Add a new line<br />

Delete - Delete the selected text box or graphic box.<br />

Display - The Display pane buttons allows you to set the document’s<br />

appearance.<br />

Show Frames – Toggles the graphic/text box frames on and off<br />

Zoom to Fit – Fits the entire item into the <strong>Free</strong> <strong>Edit</strong> screen<br />

Zoom in – Zooms into a selected area of the item<br />

Zoom out – Zooms out of a selected area of the item<br />

Pages – The Pages pane allows you to navigate to other pages within<br />

the item.<br />

Append Page – Adds a blank page into the document<br />

Insert Pages – Allows you to add multiple pages and base new pages on current ones<br />

Delete Selected Pages – Deletes the highlighted page from the Pages pane<br />

Document – The Document pane allows you to undo or redo changes<br />

These toolbars will allow you make changes to, add and delete graphic and text boxes.<br />

How to change a graphic<br />

1. Select the graphic you wish to replace.<br />

2. From the toolbar, select<br />

The Graphic Settings window is displayed, with the current graphic selected from the Choose list.<br />

3. Choose a new graphic and click Set to insert it into the selected graphic box.<br />

Based on the graphic box settings the new graphic may be loaded at its original size.<br />

You can use the top menu bar or image nodes to resize the image. Clicking and holding the mouse<br />

button will allow you to move the graphics position.<br />

The graphic formatting toolbar allows you to perform the following operations:<br />

A reference point locator, used to scale the selected object relative to the handles<br />

on the object’s bounding box. Click a point on the proxy to set the transformation<br />

origin.<br />

Position the object on the X axis.<br />

Position the object on the Y axis<br />

Scale the object’s width.<br />

Scale the object’s Height<br />

Set the percentage by which the object is scaled on the X axis.<br />

Set the percentage by which the object is scaled on the Y axis.<br />

Choose the object’s rotation angle relative to the selected reference point.<br />

How to format text<br />

Select the text box you wish to edit. Click inside the text box to set an insertion point for the new text, or<br />

select the existing text that you wish to format.<br />

The text formatting toolbar allows you to perform the following operations:<br />

Select the desired font from the list. Note: Only fonts specified for the document<br />

will be available<br />

Select the desired format from the list if available: Regular, Italic Bold, or Bold,<br />

Italic.<br />

Select the font size from the list.<br />

Select the font color.<br />

Add a bullet or numbered list. Click on the button dropdown to view options.<br />

Align the text to the left of the text box.<br />

Align the text to the center of the text box (horizontally).<br />

Align the text to the right of the text box.<br />

Justify all text, excluding the last line, which is aligned to the left.<br />

Align the text to the top of the text box<br />

Align the text to the center of the text box (vertically).<br />

Align the text to the bottom of the text box.<br />

Insert a symbol (e.g. ©, etc.) from the drop-down list.<br />

How to Add or Delete content<br />

To add a text box click the<br />

from the Toolbox and then click and hold the mouse button to draw the<br />

text box in the desired location. A graphic box can be added in the same way by selecting the<br />

the Toolbox.<br />

To delete a graphic or text box select it and then from the Toolbox click the<br />

to delete it.<br />

How to move a graphic or text box.<br />

Right click and hold on a text or graphic box to move it or click on it and use the nodes to resize.<br />

How to Zoom.<br />

Select<br />

from the Toolbox and click the document in the area you would like to zoom in to. Select<br />

to zoom out.<br />

How to Upload an image.<br />

<strong>Free</strong> <strong>Edit</strong> allows you to upload your own image to use within your document.<br />

Click on the ‘Manage your images’ tab in the top left corner. Click on the ‘Browse’ button to locate the<br />

desired image on your computer and load it to make it available to choose within the document.<br />

Click the <strong>Free</strong><strong>Edit</strong> tab to continue customizing your document.<br />

How to complete your document<br />

Once you’ve made your changes click<br />

to view a proof of your item.<br />

If needed, you can click on<br />

to go back and make changes.<br />

When you are satisfied with your work, click<br />

continue shopping or proceed to the check out.<br />
