The Diagnostic Center identified promising and evidencebased strategies for reducing gun violence Violence Prevention Strategies For Urban Youth Common Features of Effective Programs Use of street outreach workers Connecting high-risk youth to community services and support Gun Violence Reduction Strategies Law Enforcement Hot Places Hot People in Hot Places Pulling Levers Gun violence is highly concentrated in a few places or hot spots. A small number of high-rate offenders commit shootings at specific places and times. Focused deterrence strategies are associated with reductions in gun violence. Communitybased Approaches Focus on Non-fatal Shootings These strategies outperform more limited interventions. Involvement as a victim or perpetrator in non-fatal shootings is a high risk factor for future gun violence. 24
