I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (v 12 – 13) As you look back over your life and think about the different situations you have been in let me ask you this question – “How have you made it through?” I dare say you like Paul can say I have known what it is to have plenty and to have little. In your life it is Jesus who has brought you to this point. You can trust him. When we look to the future we have to take confidence from the past. The King of the Universe lives in me and will see me through. Charles Swindoll says:- “We’ll miss contentment if keeping rather than releasing becomes our objective. We too often love things and use people, when we should be using things and loving people. We are most content when we’re grateful for what we own, satisfied with what we make and generous to those in need” CONCLUSION I love the Word of God because it really works. These five Stress Busters will change your life. They will not eradicate stress but they will enable you to cope and come through. I can speak from personal experience on this issue. One afternoon I had just come back from holiday in Turkey and I felt a pain in the back of my head. I worried about it and it started a panic attack. This whole thing took hold over me for months and started to affect my relationships and my work. Eventually I went sick from work and spent evening after evening in casualty. I was 28 years of age and my mum had to sit by my bed side to see me through the night. to God. This was great but I was still suffering these panic attacks. I had to deal with the stress in my life and it was going to be a long process. I started spending quality time with God in praise and worship. Enjoying God’s creation. I started addressing some of the problems in prayer and started a journal I started training my mind to think positively – talk about the episode outside the Turkish Embassy. I started to put the Word of God into practice and had positive role models I learned to be content with what I had and make the most of it. I have named this message “Whatever” because it is the most used word in the Chapter. That is the attitude I adopted towards stress! Whatever! I soon realised that once the panic attack had finished God was still there for me and life went on. I was in a day of prayer once coming through the panic attacks and Pastor J said he felt he had a scripture for someone in the meeting and he read Philippians 4 v 4 – 9 I knew God had spoken – I knew it was for me I kept asking myself why? Was it the way I was living my life, was it some of the stuff I had been involved with as a Police Officer or was it because I was away from God. To this day I do not know but I know it was the catalyst that brought me back to God. Talk about flagging down a bus on Christmas Eve. I moved out of my house and started living at Mum and Dad’s. One day my dad said to me “Peter, what you need is the peace of God” That is all he said but I knew he was right. I drifted back into the church and in a prayer meeting gave my life back “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
