DIRECTOR GENERAL DR S.O.MOHHAMMED
African Resource and Environmental Management
Constellation satellites by Nigeria.
In realising the need for human capital development, the space
agency in the last ten years has invested largely in the knowhow
technology transfer in the areas of satellite technology
development, telemedicine, Rocketry, Remote Sensing and
Geographic Information System. And to date, over 200 Nigerian
engineers and scientists have benefited from such training in
different parts of the world, while also having the opportunity
to post-graduate studies.
The Nigeria Space Agency which started out in a room
apartment as operational office ten years ago, now boasts of a
befitting space centre which has been described as a national
monument and first of its kind in Africa.
Meanwhile, observers are of the view that the achievements
recorded by NASRDA within its ten years of existence are not
only outstanding and impressive but are pointers to the
determined efforts of the agency to pioneer the course of
history in Africa in the field of space science and technology.
Director-General National Space Research and Development
Agency, Dr. Seidu Mohammed, while speaking at a recent
function in Abuja maintained that Nigeria’s venture into space
was not borne out of luxury, rather it was of necessity and the
need to do things differently.
According to him, it is a life saving venture for the good of the
people as well as the overall longterm strategy for sustainable
national development.
Dr. Mohammed emphasised that the Agency is irrevocably
committed to the actualisation of its noble goals and objectives,
which according to him, are crucial to the realisation of the
seven-point Agenda of the present administration and in tune
with the quest for overall national development.
It is pertinent to say, therefore, that after ten years of historical
sojourn, the National Space Research and Development Agency
is not only on course in the actualisation of Nigeria’s space
agenda but the Agency is leaving no stone unturned through
noble efforts commitment and appropraite strategies towards
making space science and technology much more responsive
to the yearnings and aspirations of the entire citizenry.
