BOUNDARY BANTER
Ben Waterworth: In the words of the Foo Fighters BWS,
‘I’ve got another confession to make’.
Ben Warren-Smith: Here we go again.
BW: Not sure if you’ll ever look at me the same way again.
BWS: I’ve been struggling most of the season.
BW: Watched Two Weeks’ Notice during the week.
BWS: Isn’t that the quintessential chick fl ick?
BW: Indeed.
BWS: The only way you’ll get my approval is if you tell
me you watched it at a lovely lady’s house because that was
the only decent DVD she offered up.
BW: Not quite! Had the day off university. Saw it sitting
there in the storage cupboard. Thought to myself ‘don’t
think I’ve watched this for a while’. Then it just happened.
BWS: You are a disgrace to all men.
BW: Had a good reason to watch it though.
BWS: You better have.
BW: Well there’s only two weeks until EFL fi nals. So
watched the fi lm to remind myself of how much things can
change in two weeks.
BWS: Gosh you redheads are strange.
BW: You love it.
BWS: While we’re on topic though, think the top fi ve will
change in Division 4 over the next two weeks?
BW: Don’t think so. With Forest Hill losing and South
Belgrave winning, it’s hard to see the Zebras squeezing
back in.
BWS: A month ago I still had faith they could give it a
shake. Don’t things turn around quickly?
BW: It does. And that’s the difference between them and
the Saints in 2011. Think the latter will make it and could
really cause an upset in the fi nals if they come to play.
BWS: Division 3’s basically set in stone too. North
Ringwood will stay fi rst and Templestowe will fi nish
fourth. However Boronia and Doncaster will be battling it
out for second over the next fortnight.
BW: Who gets the double chance?
BWS: Tell me who you think and I tell you if I agree.
BW: Don’t think we’ll know until next weekend when the
top four sides all play each other.
BWS: Perfect answer Sauce. Get around Division 3 next
Saturday. It’s going to be huge.
BW: Reckon Division 2’s top four won’t change much
either. Montrose has a six points and a heap of percentage
over Donny East and Upper Gully.
BWS: What’s happened to our Lions?
BW: Not sure. Lost three of their past four. Basically
thrown their fi nals chances away.
BWS: Perhaps the only Division where anything is still
possible is Division 1.
BW: Plenty of cats thrown amongst the pigeons last
weekend.
BWS: You’re not wrong. East Burwood beat Knox by
eight points in a super tight contest, while Balwyn went
down at home – again – to Norwood.
BW: Fat lady hasn’t quite made her presence felt in
Division 1 yet.
BWS: She may have by the end of today if the Rams lose
to East Ringwood and the Tigers beat South Croydon.
BW: Surely the Knox-Noble Park game is the pick of the
round though.
BWS: One of the most anticipated matches in the second
half of the season, pace versus press – who will win it
and take the psychological edge into fi nals? I think the
Bulls narrowly, breaking Shaun Kelly’s balcony curse and
ensuring we are invited back in the future.
BW: Yes the Bulls at home should be too strong. Balwyn
will be too good for the Doggies, Blackburn, Scoresby,
East Ringwood over the Rams and Vermont to beat the
Blues in what should be a very close game.
BWS: It’s David Banfi eld’s last home game as coach and
I agree the boys will get up. I just can’t seem to pick East
Burwood at the right time this year, but with a fi nals berth
still ajar think they will topple the Roos today. Agree on the
rest mate, whets going on in Division 2?
BW: Can’t wait for the Rowville-Lilydale game today.
Hawks have won their past six games by 57 points, but
the ‘Dales haven’t done too much wrong themselves. We’ll
get a really good indication of where the Hawks are today,
which will be that they are the real deal. Going for an
upset here.
BWS: I’d love to agree but I can’t, Rowville have been up
for weeks now, and the might of Lilydale will be evident
this afternoon. In other games Doncaster East have a
tough task but must win, and it would seem Bayswater,
Mooroolbark and Montrose should win comfortably.
BW: Two divisions down and plenty of different tips,
I like it.
BWS: Settle down mate. Looking forward to watching
Chirnside Park and Templestowe out at Kimberley Reserve
today. The Panthers have claimed some big scalps on
their home patch this year and expect this to be close. I’m
tipping Tempy just, but wouldn’t be surprised of an upset.
BW: If you’re out there fossil, it’s bound to be close and
agree Tempy will get over the line. Boronia will be too good
for the Tigers today, the usual suspects North Ringwood
and Doncaster and Ringwood just over the Whitehorse
Pioneers to round out my Division 3 tips.
BWS: I told you too settle down mate, wouldn’t you know
– all they same with only a fortnight left in the Division.
BW: It’s pretty clear cut in Division 4 this week but a big
opportunity exists for South Belgrave today when it takes
on the in-form Ferntree Gully Eagles. Reckon the Saints
might struggle down back. Yes they’ve got a ripper in Todd
Burley there, but he can’t cover all of Muscat, Morris,
Pierce and Topp by himself. Eagles for mine.
BWS: That’s good enough to sell me, Kilsyth will be
looking to fi nish on a high for their last home game against
Silvan, and I like the Nunawading today to get up against
Forest Hill as a bit of an upset. The Glen Waverley Hawks,
Heathmont and The Basin should kick scores that may
even rival your boys down at the Cattery!
BW: Some days you just really love that drive down the
Western Highway to Geelong.
BWS: And the other days?
BW: Mum drives.
