www.efl .org.au DRAGONS’ FIRE BURNS RANGES by Mitch Gibb It was sunny winter’s day that saw Eastern Ranges take on the Sandringham Dragons for their round 14 clash at Shepley Oval; a match that would shape the remainder of the season. It was an even affair in the opening quarter; both sides were having a red-hot crack with the scores locked at 14 points apiece at quarter time. Both teams had their share of possession and it looked a fairly even contest across the board, with Leif Cope dominating the ruck work around the ground. The second quarter however showed a shift in momentum and intensity with Sandringham having most of the play, accumulating 10 scoring shots to the Ranges’ mere three, breaking the margin open to a healthy 27 point lead for the home team at the main break. The second half was much the same with the Dragons peppering the goals and the Ranges not capitalizing on opportunities, pushing the margin to a comprehensive 64-point win to the Dragons. The Ranges were made to look a bit slow and the Dragons players exploited this by running in waves and creating excellent ball movement to set up a win.
