DIVISION 2 CLUB NOTES
had the most to gain with a spot in the top four within our grasp. A win
would have given our fi nals chance a real boost but, after a close tussle,
we fell eight points short. Best were Thomas, Jackson, Hager, Dimitriou,
Neumann & Hammen. With the stats for the seniors showing that, over the
history of the 2 clubs, Mooroolbark and Montrose have played 45 times
for 22 wins each and 1 draw, there was a lot of bragging rights at stake,
and the large crowd were treated to a quality game of suburban football.
The scores were close all game but the mighty Mustangs prevailed in the
end, recording a very satisfying 11 point victory. Kid booted fi ve goals to
take his tally to 88 for the season, while Mulzy chipped in for three. Trent
Georgiou was superb in defence and earned the BOG award. Others to
show out were Roach, Linford, Wadsworth & Lee. This week we travel
to Wantirna South where we take on the Devils. The $50 raffl e tickets
are selling fast so see John Gallagher for your ticket. GO MUSTANGS!
ROWVILLE: A fantastic night at the Polish Club last week with 180
players, coaches, members & supporters attending the Hypnotist Function,
we got to see some people in a completely different light, out of their
comfort zone and under the control of Steven Spellmaster. Last week the
Colts came back after a slow start to get over Waverley Blues and keep
their fi nals chances alive, while the reserves shut the game down with a
very impressive fi rst half and have secured the Minor Premiership and top
spot with three weeks to the fi nals a great effort by Tate Burgmann and
the boys with a lot of work still to be done. We expected and got a much
tougher outing against Waverley Blues than when we met earlier in the
year, the game was a scrap played in cold and at times windy conditions
and it was great to come away with the four points. Ash Davies became
our seventh fi rst game player this year when he replaced Adam Zigerink
who withdrew through injury, a great day for Ash and an exciting time for
our club with so much young talent coming through. This week we take
on Lilydale in what is a great challenge for all three teams at this stage of
the season. A top of the table clash is just what we wanted as we welcome
our Past Players to their special day at the club. Only one home match and
Presidents Lunch left for the year on August 20 against Bayswater don’t
miss out book early. For all the latest news from the club don’t forget our
sponsored by Russells Lifestyle and Stihl Shop Ferntree Gully. The
VIP superbox will be used today by Phoenix Lubricants and guests who
we welcome and hope you enjoy the game. The seniors had a good day
winning last week against Doncaster East with Shannon Graham playing
his 200th game. A big win for the reserves with both Anthony Lorusso and
Andy Constatine playing their 50th games, as well we saw appearances
from our President Derko and Paul Dale helping to make up the numbers.
The Colts unfortunately went down but should see the return of a few
players over the coming weeks to strengthen the side heading towards the
fi nals. Congratulations to Matthew Lee for playing for Vic Metro U15s last
week in Canberra; Vic Metro won the carnival beating WA in the fi nal by
45 points. Last Home game will be a VIP Ladies Race Day; see Robyn for
into the grand fi nals with good team performances last week. The U15s
also had a good win which puts them in the Preliminary Final tomorrow
against Boronia at Mooroolbark. The U16s were unlucky going down on
the last kick after leading all day but get another chance in the preliminary
fi nal tomorrow against South Croydon at Blackburn; well done to Nathan
McDonald on his 100th game. Presentation Night tickets now available
WANTIRNA SOUTH: We start this week by congratulating both Andrew
Teakel and Kyle Brooks who have been solid contributors to the playing
group of the WSFC on playing their 100th games last week. Unfortunately
the result in the seniors did not match the occasion as they went down
by 38 points. Inaccurate kicking in the fi rst quarter and a poor second
quarter was their undoing. After half time they re-grouped, playing much
better and won the second half of the game, but the damage had been
done. Best: K.Hoogkamer, L.Kitchen, A.Teakel, M.Jamieson, A.Stewart
and C.Phillips. For the third week in a row the reserves played exciting and
team orientated football and did not let Bayswater get into the game. At half
time they led by 43 points and the margin only kept growing culminating
in a 12 goal last quarter, eventually running away to win by the proverbial
country mile of 117 points. Great games by J.Barrie, 6 goals and J.Frantz,
4 goals, with both featuring in the best players along with M.Oldenhof,
B.Baker and D.DeAurago. The Colts started the day with a strong fi rst
and second quarters, going in at the long break 11 points up. After half
time they continued the good work stretching the margin to 19 points at
three quarter time. A further 4 goals in the last sealed the game which the
Colts needed to win to maintain a mathematical chance of playing fi nals.
For the next three weeks they need to keep winning and working on their
percentage. Best: M.Clark, who also was awarded the LPGiQ Colts Player
of the Round, together with S.Whitford, J.Campbell, B.Abraham and
M. Griffen. Congratulations go to the U/16 's team on winning their second
semi-fi nal last Sunday, going straight through to the grand fi nal. We ask all
senior players and club members to come along and support them on the
13th August. A reminder to keep Sunday 21st free for the Best and Fairest
vote counting in all divisions at the Walker Reserve Clubrooms. More
news on that next week. To view the latest Club news visit our website on
WAVERLEY BLUES: Good luck to our boys today against Montrose in
what will be an important day in all grades. Last week: Colts – Great hard
work gave us a healthy break going into the half time break. Unfortunately
not everything went our way in the second half and we went down by
14 points. Terrifi c efforts from many of our boys including Keiran, Wes
and Lachie. Special efforts too by Siva and Lachie who backed up in the
reserves and played well again. The boundless energy of youth! Reserves:
Lost the game in the fi rst quarter with only one goal against six despite the
aid of the breeze. The game was fi nished off well so let’s take that form
into the match this week. We can’t afford to be snoozing when the siren
goes today. Better players were Taunt, Farquar and Foley. Seniors: A far
improved performance from last time we met Rowville but unfortunately
another loss which is the main KPI that counts. Better players were Watts,
Leahy, Savage and Ampt. Social: Last week our past players day was a
great success and special thanks to Shoosha for putting together the old
footage for the big screen. Great to remember Sloppy with a full head
of hair! Tonight is the $5k draw so make sure you get yourself and your
friends/partners/well-wishers along to take part in the festivities. Always
a great night so get amongst it! Tickets $50 and available on the door if
you haven’t already got yours. 7pm kickoff enables plenty of scope for
activities. To keep up to date with all happenings around the club please
