50yearsEFL
This year the EFL’s online efforts have provided a real
boost to the way we go about making sure that EFL
supporters, players and offi cials get more news about
the league, faster than ever before.
Some very good decisions were made more than
11 years ago when the EFL joined with SportingPulse
to help them to build a player and match management
system that is now been embraced nationally as
Footyweb. This is the system that facilitates all player
transfers, match results and fi xtures throughout the
country. At the time the EFL also launched its fi rst
website and provided opportunities for clubs to have
their own stand-alone sites. These were very basic sites
with little fl exibility on how they looked or the content
they provided. Today they are much improved, and
clubs still have the option of these provide free to build
and to host.
Today, of course, the new world of social media is
providing new challenges. However, concepts such
as Facebook and Twitter are not exactly foreign to the
EFL. The EFL fan forum has provided opportunities
for individuals to express themselves and to engage
in chat about our football since we fi rst launched the
site. Its interactivity has been a key part of the site and
has helped provide us unparalleled traffi c amongst the
SportingPulse network
Today our on line activity is far and away our most
effective form of media. Apart from our own forum
we have integrated Facebook and Twitter into our
online strategy, an application for smart phones, a
tipping competition, radio broadcast streaming and we
recently launched our own YouTube channel and online
television show, EFL TV.
The results have been extremely positive. Based on the
industry standard Neilson Data statistics, the EFL site
ranked seventh nationally in June amongst all sports
sites for the commercially important page impressions.
Since 2008 our joint venture with SportingPulse has
seen the introduction of advertising to EFL sites and
helped to realize some of the commercial objectives of
our on line operations. In coming weeks we hope to
launch LIVE fi nals action through the EFL YouTube
channel as we integrate more media activities through
the website.
