NORWOOD: The win last week at Balwyn sparked a
small glimmer of hope for fi nals. The game was tight all
day with the lead changing hands frequently. The fi rst
quarter was disappointing but a second quarter revival
saw the woods kick six goals to Balwyn's two. The third
term was full of excitement and with the margin being only
three points at the last break everyone was on the edge of
their seat. The Woods composed themselves and lifted to
record a 23 point win. Leroy and Hyatt kicked four goals
apiece with best players including the Johnson brothers,
Hill, Wilsen, Monkey and DeCler. The reserves had another
solid win that helped with their fi nals aspirations. It took
them a quarter to warm up however once they started rolling
there was no stopping them. Walton booted four with best
players being Cornwall, Whittaker, Sharrock, Knowles,
Bucky and Arrowsmith. The colts had a rest with the bye.
Social - Don’t leave it too late to purchase your Major Raffl e
again Norwood juniors have a fantastic representation in the
junior fi nals good luck to all the teams that have made it the
senior club is right behind you. Go Woodies!
SCORESBY: Today we look forward to the massive
challenge of travelling to Norwood to take on a very inform
club. A weeks a long time in footy and we saw that on
Saturday with a dramatically improved performance by
the seniors who exploded out of the blocks with a seven
goal fi rst quarter from then on it was how far! To the boys
credit we played a complete four quarters with Kirby
kicking 5, Hicksy 4 and Cmack, Bucks and Hoegs kicking
3 each. Better player were Coss, Bulldog, Parks and Marcs!
The Ressies continued on their fantastic late season form
with a dominant performance running away winners by
130 points to remain undefeated. Chadders and Benny B
kicking 5 goals each were standouts along with Wade Mc,
DMac and Jakey Ryall. In the colts we went through the
motions for half a game until we found some form in the
second half led by Delpapa, Tasker and Matty Little to
come away nine goal winners. The club extends a huge
CONGRATULATIONS to our Colts coach Sean Kavanagh
who coached the Victoria Metro U15 team to the Australian
Championship last Saturday versus Western Australia in
Canberra. In a brilliant team performance over the week
the team went through undefeated to win the grand fi nal by
45 points. Assistant coach David Round and Team Manager
Jim Hamilton were also part of the Match Committee. Well
done from everyone at the club we are very proud of you.
SOUTH CROYDON: Welcome back to Hughes Park
and welcome to Balwyn players and supporters. Please
enjoy the day and stay around after the match for a drink
or two. The BBQ will still be going! Last week Scoresby
came to Hughes Park and left with all the chocolates. The
Colts battled hard all day against the top team and were not
disgraced at all despite going down by 55 points. Previous
games would have seen twice that margin, so well done.
Adams kicked four in a good effort. Better players Cox,
Brown, Mason, Dean, McKeown and Dyck. The Ressies put
in a good fi rst quarter, then fell away badly to be well beaten
and perhaps out of the fi nals running. Better players Allison,
King, McLauchlan, Panozza, Farrell and Selbe-Hele. The
Seniors also put in a better effort despite the scoreline.
Scoresby were simply too good on the day. Mallison kicked
3 and Strachan 2 with better players Hill, Strachan, Higgins,
Marshall, Festini and Dano King. Sponsor of the week,
Brett Buttfi eld - Poweredge Electrical. Remember to get
your ticket in the Lucky Raffl e from Tracey Adams. To be
drawn at the function on Aug 13th. Go Doggies.
VERMONT: We were playing for pride last Saturday at
East Ringwood and although the seniors just failed on the
scoreboard, they did not fail in the pride division. They were
outstanding. To have nine changes from the week before and
eight of them forced would have to have been a Club record.
Congratulations to the three fi rst gamers Michael Sonsie,
Anthony Chiodo and Paul White (from the Colts); you
were terrifi c. The Craig Coghlan Trophy went to Michael
DellAquila for a super game. Other best were Ryan Mullett,
Travis Bird, Grant McCarthy, Daniel Mendes, Dean Waller.
The undermanned reserves did manage to score a win with
Jason Youseff playing a great game and winning the Perry
Fletcher Award. Other best were Clinton Jones, Xavier
Barry-Murphy, Anthony Thompson, Kalem Post. The Colts
also had a very gutsy win with Connor McCafferty getting
the Elite Appliances Award followed by Jacob Sheldon-
Collins, Bryce Fisher, Andy Hackett, Tom Pretto and Brad
Walters. The St Kilda Spinners Jet Boat Award went to Jason
Youseff for his best game for the Club. Congratulations to
former VFC champs in Todd Power and Matt “Spocky”
Smith who will their 300 EFL & Rep games this week at the
