DIVISION 1 CLUB NOTES
before three consecutive majors saw Vermont hit the front
part way into the fi nal term. To our boys credit, they dug deep
to answer the challenge and fi nished off a solid performance
with a 17 point victory in Cogsy’s last game as senior coach.
Chris’s fi nal words to the group and to supporters afterwards
were typical of the man, his integrity and his devotion to this
football club. Two days of junior fi nals at East Ringwood
have been very successful thanks to the assistance of our
volunteers. We need you again tomorrow and the following
week when we anticipate even larger crowds. Contact
Garry on 0412 534 226 if you can assist or just turn up at
East Ringwood Reserve tomorrow. First bounce is at 11am.
Congratulations to our Under 16 and Under 14 boys for
your wins in last week’s major semi-fi nals taking both teams
into the grand fi nal. A terrifi c achievement by the boys, their
coaches and all concerned. U16 GF is at Knox Reserve
while U14’s play at Morton Park, both on Sunday, August
14. The Club is holding a Sportman’s Night featuring a
great panel with Wayne Carey, Anthony Koutoufi des and
Sam Greco on board. At $65 a head for these speakers and
an excellent two course meal, this is great value. The date
to remember is Wednesday, August 31 at the Maroondah
Sports Club where bookings can be made on 9879 2922.
Don’t forget about the East Ringwood Grand Final
Breakfast which has become a Grand Final day institution
in the eastern suburbs. Flyers for this season’s Presentation
Night at the Karralyka Theatre on Saturday, October
8 have been distributed this week containing booking
information. We are looking to have a strong representation
from all sections of the club and need as many supporters
as possible to make this a great event. We can promise a
few surprises on the night and we have confi rmed that MFC
Football Manager, Chris Connolly will be our special
guest MC for the evening. In the meantime, log-on to www.
erfc.com.au for all the latest Roo News. GO ROOS!
KNOX: Last week we welcomed East Burwood to Argyle
Way for a much anticipated encounter. The day started with
the colts who had a fantastic week on the training track.
The boys came out fi ring from the fi rst bounce and held a
nice lead all day before almost throwing the game away in
the last quarter. East Burwood piled on eight goals to two
in the last, chewing the margin down in dramatic fashion,
only to fall short by one point, giving the young Falcons
their second victory for the season. Great effort boys. Best:
O. Boysel, J. Brown & T. Brown. The reserves were also
able to get off to a great start, only to have East Burwood
hit back in the second quarter to hold a four point lead at the
main break. The Falcons however, were able to respond in
the second half producing some fantastic football, bringing
their September dreams a little closer with a 29 point
victory. Best: N. Canning, P. Tyler & R Joachim. After two
good wins for the day, the seniors were unable to follow suit,
falling victim once again to a more desperate East Burwood.
In a day that could have seen the club secure its fi rst
Division 1 fi nals birth, the Falcons were unable to produce
the level of intensity and endeavour that has been pivotal
DIVISION 1 TEAMS
in their season’s success to date. The result leaves the door
open for East Burwood to make a strong charge home to
September action, while the falcons can still lock in a fi nals
birth with one more win. Best: L. Williams, J. Castricum &
P. Tredrea. An exciting day today sees the club travelling
to face top of the table Noble Park. Coach Jon Knight will
be expecting vast improvements on last week’s efforts and
nothing short of 100% will be good enough to challenge the
Bulls on their own turf. Good luck to all players. Tonight is
the annual dinner dance at Mulgrave Country Club while
next weekend the 13th August is Pajama Party at the club.
$10 for guys, free for ladies. Doors 7pm. Come one, come
all. Go Falcons!
MULGRAVE: Accumulative scores last Saturday vs
Noble Park across all three teams was 500 pts to 70 – a
very dark day for the club…or was it? Due to a range
of circumstances, our 2011 senior team is young, with
regularly over 50% of the team being U21, with an average
of fewer than 20 senior games. This has resulted in a
cascading selection effect across the reserves & Colts. For
most of the senior & Colts teams, EFL Div 1 is the highest
standard of football they will have played, and most will not
have encountered anything like away vs a rampant Noble
Park. They have now experienced fi rsthand the benchmark,
and hopefully recognize what is required to be competitive
in Div 1. This week we visit Blackburn, which will be an
immediate indicator of the desire and adaptability of our
playing group, as Blackburn are in form and as tough a test
as Noble Park! Many thanks to those who have helped over
the last two Sundays in hosting Jnr Finals. Your support and
contribution has been greatly appreciated. Watch out for
announcements of new social functions, particularly Race
Day at the Greyhounds – Sandown Racetrack on Sun 14th
August – see Adam Booth for details.
NOBLE PARK: Massive wins for all of our three teams
last week and it’s been a long time since that has happened.
Congratulations to all the coaches and players! All the very
best to Mulgrave for the rest of the year and future. Hopefully
they can notch up a few more wins for Hayden. Every week
brings along challenges and today we certainly have one
in facing up to Knox as we welcome them to the Bullring.
Great to see a lot of our injured players staring to come back
as they battle for positions in our best 22. Congratulations to
Ziggy Alwan who plays his 100th game today. Presentation
of the B & F night is on Saturday October 8th and will be
held at the Southern Golf Club due to renovations occurring
within the Social Club around this period. Ticket prices yet
to be confi rmed and check the website for announcements.
Also we want as many supporters as we can to go along to
next week’s game against Balwyn away, should be another
classic game and remember they beat us here at the Bullring
in the Queen’s Birthday Blockbuster match earlier this year.
The best way to go this match is with our supporters on the
bus and due to the demand already, there will be an extra bus
running. To secure your seats and really enjoy the day put
your names down on the list in the Sports Bar or call Ziggy
