THE ROUND TABLE WITH CHLOE BUGELLY The Eastern Footballer recently sat down with Nine News reporter and Women of the EFL special guest Chloe Bugelly to hear about her experiences as a Nine News journalist in both Sydney and Melbourne. Chloe recently joined the Women of the EFL at Norwood Football Club for an enjoyable evening where she shared a number of stories and laughs with the ladies. Keep an eye out for Chloe around the EFL in the future, as well of course nightly at 6pm on Channel 9. What was your fi rst job in journalism? I was a cadet reporter at The Border Mail newspaper in Albury. What led you to want to become involved in the media? I’m fascinated by people and have a real passion for current affairs. So it seemed like the perfect fi t. Who do you admire in the media industry? Locally it would have to be Nine’s very own Peter Harvey, a true gentleman. Further afi eld I look up to people like ABC America’s David Muir and legendary interviewer Diane Sawyer. What has been your toughest story to report on and why? Defi nitely the Kokoda plane crash in August, 2010. Nine Australians died in the tragedy and it was a story I was deeply touched by. Are there any stories that you have reported on that really stick in your memory? Interviewing the parents of Pakenham teenager Cameron Lowe – who was bashed to death – is something I’ll never forget, while I laughed a lot covering Liz Hurley’s trip down under to see Shane Warne. Who have been some of your favourite people you have interviewed in your job? Chatting to John Howard on his morning jog around North Sydney was fantastic, while interviewing Kim Kardashian was a lot of fun. Is there one person or group you would like to interview or report on in your career? The ultimate interview would have to be with Barack Obama while Joan Rivers would be very entertaining. Do you ever fi nd some people are diffi cult to interview, and how do you get around this? I fi nd children are the most diffi cult to interview, while some politicians can also be very intimidating. But in general, people love to talk about themselves, so if you approach the interview with the right tone and style you normally get a good result. Have you ever been in any dangerous situations due to a story you were covering? I got into plenty of hairy situations on Bintan Island while helping to cover the plight of 78 asylum seekers stuck on board the Oceanic Viking in October, 2010. How many hours can you sometimes work in a week? When you’re working on a big story, interstate or overseas, an 80 hour a week is pretty standard– I’ve been on stories where two hours of sleep is a luxury. You are obviously involved in TV, have you ever been involved in other forms of media, and what have you found are the major differences? I’ve worked in print, radio and television and they each have their own virtues. You are spoilt in television because you get to use sound and pictures – so when you use them both effectively you can create an extremely powerful story. WOMEN’S SENIOR CRICKET COMES TO THE OUTER EAST Do you play Women’s Cricket? Are you interested in furthering your career to maybe become a ‘VICSPIRIT’ player or even representing your country? Do you want to play on turf? Do you want to be part of a very successful Cricket Victoria Premier club? If the answer was yes, then you should consider the Ringwood Cricket Club’s newly formed women’s section competing in the VWCA Premier divisions. The position is for a senior coach but ideally this person would play in our 1st XI with experience & ability at a similar or higher level. Previous coaching experience is not mandatory, but the desire to develop as a coach and the enthusiasm and motivation to improve our playing group is. We currently have 4 senior teams and 3 junior, with our 1st XI playing in McIntosh Shield in the BHRDCA. BHNCC is a strong club with a proud history, great social and family-friendly culture.
