Grandparents Day allOWS the whole family to be involved in education
dents used 3-D printers and CAD programming to create cars
and animals in plastic. The cars were aerodynamically imposed
with CO2 cartridges that made them race down a track.
This is not ordinary learning – its extraordinary learning.
“My husband and I feel like we’ve hit the jackpot with Unity
School as it’s a true gem. Our children are receiving an exemplary,
well-rounded and challenging education in a supportive
environment surrounded by dedicated and passionate teachers
and administration,” said Nynke Henderson, whose children
Finn and Holland attend Unity.
A holistic education is what is so valued at Unity – by parents
and the staff. This includes a student run garden that grows
lettuce, broccoli, carrots and tomatoes. And guess what? The
vending machine has sensible food like yogurt, raisins, seaweed
snacks and veggie sticks. Add that to the no soda policy and you
have another of Unity’s great student-centric policies.
Students also have responsibilities to perform in the classroom.
This performance task is part and parcel of creating good
stewardship and citizenship. Each classroom has an organizer
on the wall with Dixie sticks and names of jobs such as Door
Holder, Greeter, Problem Solver, Messenger and Safe-Keeper.
It is things like this that impress – and instill respect – from
parents who think of Unity as their second home. “I could speak
for hours about Unity School. It’s more than just Academic Excellence,
it’s a school that truly believes and exists to teach the
Whole Child. Our teachers and administration are our family
and their goal is to ensure we are receiving the best education
in South Florida,” said Dawn Plasencia, whose daughters Lola
and Mia attend Unity.
Unity also has a gymnasium with theater-sized performance
stage and studios for art, music and TV production. Students learn
Spanish, take part in community service and character development.
The results are well-rounded students that are prepared for
competitive high school and college environments.
There’s also a gentility and family-centric focus on campus.
“There are a lot of parents on the campus – we want them to be
involved in their children’s education. Often they stay and recite
the ‘Peace Prayer’ with the students. It helps them feel good
about their day,” adds St – Laurent.
Unity is a special place that values life, love and understanding.
The education is first rate and the strengthening of student’s
moral fiber is exactly what future leaders must possess. We applaud
Unity School for their foresight, insight and brilliance.
