“I like to do creative work, one-of-a-kind pieces,” he says,
pointing out some of his most unique creations, including a
striking gold cross pendant with a Jewish star in its center. “I can
do anything. I’m not a manufacturer.”
Tom proudly displays samples of some of the many rings he’s
created. He’s now working on re-doing a pair of earrings made
from sea shells. “The shells are broken. I’m going to repair them,”
he says. “I’m at a point that if a job looks interesting, why not do it?”
It will be three years next month that Tom’s shop has been at
its current location.
The Goldsmith Shop is not the first jewelry business he owned.
In 1980 he opened his first jewelry store called “Jewelry Works”
in North Fort Lauderdale. Tom opened his second jewelry store
in 1985 in Boca Raton called “The Boca Goldsmith.” In 2001 he
moved to another Delray Beach jewelry store and leased a small
repair and jewelry design shop. In 2014, he opened the Goldsmith
Shop.”
Tom’s creative side has always been present, even when he
was still working at an engineering firm. “I had a little silver shop
in Pennsylvania,” he says.
A lot of what Tom does has been self-taught, he says. “I learned
to do quartz watches.” Plus, he has taken a lot of art courses – especially
in the art of sculpture – he says. Tom specializes in both
antique and contemporary jewelry repairs, diamonds, precious
gems, and pearl stringing. He is also certified in Rolex repairs. The
Goldsmith Shop does individually-crafted, custom designs. Watch
batteries are installed while you wait.
