Let’s get physical, physical. (Well, kind of.) April is
Physical Wellness Month and is a great time to focus
on the self. Physical wellness promotes proper
care of our bodies for optimal health and functioning, and
encourages the balance of physical activity, nutrition and
mental well-being to keep your body in tiptop condition.
This could include doing something you haven’t done before,
and that’s where the Morikami Museum & Japanese
Gardens comes into play. They’re hosting The Way of Tea:
Sado Demonstration on April 15 and welcome you to observe
Japanese sado, an ever-changing demonstration in
seasonal subtleties. Your involvement in the true spirit of
sado includes harmony (wa), reverence (kei), purity (sei)
and tranquility (jaku), and with the addition of a sip of
green tea and a sweet treat, this will help you to bring a
calm perspective into your busy life. There are even numerous
bonuses to drinking tea, including a healthy dose
of antioxidants, preventing bone loss, boosting your immune
system, and more. The demonstration is held at 12
p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. and is only $5 with a paid museum
admission. The Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens
is located at 4000 Morikami Park Road. Visit www.
and to sign up.
It’s liquid gold and it never goes out of style. April is National
Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month and it’s pretty
fitting that there’s a holiday for this heavenly sandwich.
Thankfully we have some local restaurants that have elevated
the sandwich way past the plastic-wrapped American
cheese sandwiches of our childhood. Granger’s Grille
dishes up their Glorified Grilled Cheese, which is a combination
of six cheeses and served with Yukon Gold chips
(money in their own right) for only $7.50. If you want to
bring this to an even higher level, add bacon, chili, broccoli,
fried green tomatoes, fried bologna, tomatoes or jalapenos
starting at $1 each, and then order a nap for dessert.
Dada is getting even cheesier with their Seven
Cheese Grilled Cheese, featuring cheddar, Swiss,
goat, blue, sheep feta, Muenster and American
cheeses on sourdough served with tomato
bisque for only $10.50. This sandwich is so
ooey and gooey that it’s impossible to get
through the whole sandwich without the
melty cheese becoming the victim of gravity
and spilling out the sides. But, it’s well worth
the mess. Granger’s Grille is located at 802 S.E.
Fifth Ave. and Dada is located at 52 N. Swinton
Ave. Visit www.grangersgrille.com and www.sub-culture.
org for menus and more information.
