The Miracle League
Lisa and David Mizen
On February 25, 2017, The Miracle
League of Palm Beach County celebrated
their 2nd Annual Dinner on the Diamond
event. The Miracle League of Palm Beach
County provides opportunities for all children
to play baseball regardless of their
ability. Although The Miracle League of
Palm Beach County is recognized by its athletic
name, baseball is primarily a vehicle to
encourage kindness, compassion, creativity,
and generosity in the community. Completely
volunteer organized and implemented,
the Dinner on the Diamond incorporates a
catered dinner, live entertainment, and an
auction to raise money to keep the league
fee-free and to support special projects and
improvements. Last year, the funds raised
were allocated toward the purchase and installation
of outdoor lighting at the Miracle
League Field at Robert J. Miller Park in Delray
Beach. This year, Julia Kadel, Founder
and Director, flipped the switch on these
very lights to illuminate the stadium and
the event’s next project. Boundless Dreams
calls for the construction of an all-inclusive
and unrestricted playground adjacent to the
field so that children of all abilities can experience
the joy of play together. The featured
keynote speaker was Robin Jennings, a former
Major League Baseball player, father of
a special needs daughter, and volunteer at
the Salt Lake City, Utah Miracle League. He
shared his personal journey and connected
with everyone in attendance. Billy the Marlin
got everyone dancing to the music of the
John Greco Band and later to the tunes the
Royal DJs were spinning. “We are so grateful
for the support of Robin, auctioneer Jay
Zeager, our sponsors, players, families, and
volunteers who make miracles happen in
our community,” Kadel said. If you would
luncheon that was provided by Carefree Catering.
The event also offered a silent auction
featuring one-of-a-kind artworks by
local artists, exquisite jewelry and luxurious
spa services. To learn more visit www.
