► lOCAls only ║ in the news Delray Beach Police Department - 14th Annual Awards Banquet The Delray Beach Police Department is comprised of 156 sworn officers and 60 civilian support staff. These men and women are dedicated to their profession and their community. This year the police department is recognizing four of their members who have crossed a significant milestone in their career. That milestone is the achievement of more than 20 years of dedicated service to their community. In addition, they will recognize the Police Officer and Employee of the Year for 2016. The Fourteenth Annual Employee Awards Dinner is scheduled for April 28, 2017, at the Delray Beach Marriott. This special evening will include dinner, entertainment, and award presentations. All donations are by check made out to Delray Citizens for Delray Police and sent to the police station. Knowing that there are almost 80,000 people in Palm Beach County with special needs and over 150,000 visitors to Miller Park in Delray Beach each year, the vision for the grant became obvious: an unrestricted, boundless, and inclusive playground and garden area to be built adjacent to The Miracle League Field. The new playground will include a shaded space with wide pathways, level play areas, seating, and green space with accessibility for wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. Most importantly, it will be an allinclusive area allowing participation, providing perspective, and reducing prejudice for those with differing needs. Delray Beach Home Tour Raises A Record $125,000 For The Achievement Centers For Children And Families “Impact 100 Men’s Grant Giveaway” The first Impact 100 Men’s grant of $50,000 went to the Miracle League of Delray Beach. It was felt the money would make the biggest impact with a program that would affect the most amount of children, along with the passion that the founders of the Miracle League, Julia and Jeff Kadel show at every game and the energy and love they show for the children. The other two finalists The Milagro Center and Junior Achievement South Florida received a grant of $3,000 each which will hopefully Nearly 800 guests enjoyed the 16th annual Delray Beach Home Tour hosted by the Achievement Centers for Children & Families Foundation on March 9th. Ten beautiful homes and over 130 volunteers raised a record $125,000 for the agency’s programs and services providing early education and child care to low-income children and families in Delray Beach. The Home Tour began in 2002 and has become a widely popular event attracting people from South Florida and beyond. The 2017 event was held in the North beach area of Delray and showcased homes with a variety of design styles. Everything from old Florida cottages to stunning oceanfront estates, the homes catered to everyone’s tastes and interests.
