The Center for the Promotion of Learning Skills The Center’s aim is to aid students with learning disabilities and/or ADD in identifying the characteristics of their specific learning disability, and to learn methods of using their stronger skills. The Center helps students with learning disabilities acquire efficient learning skills and thus improve their academic achievements. Study strategies taught at the Center include efficient reading, writing academic papers, dealing with exams, efficient time management, organization of study tasks, etc. The Center's activities include personal consultations, lectures to students and faculty about learning disabilities and study strategies geared at enhancing community volunteering activities (such as tutorship) on behalf of IDC Herzliya. The Center was established thanks to specifically targeted donations. Services are provided for a minimal fee. The Hillel Center at IDC Herzliya The Hillel Center fosters and promotes Jewish cultural life to Israeli and to international students. The Center offers cultural events, concerts, trips, and promotes the celebration of Jewish holidays, as well as informal studies of Judaism. The Hillel Center at IDC Herzliya is a member of the Hillel worldwide organization for Jewish life. Hillel provides an opportunity for students to strengthen and celebrate their Jewish identity. The Student Union The Student Union is the student representative body at IDC Herzliya. Its general purpose is to represent the students’ interest at the IDC Herzliya as well as on a national level. The Student Union is a non-political, registered nonprofit organization funded by students' annual membership fees. Activities of the Student Union Courses and Workshops The Student Union offers a variety of enrichment courses to students including financial skills, homeopathic and alternative medicine, first aid, as well as lectures on issues relating to society and general issues. Preparation courses for examinations are also taught in the framework of the Student Union. Subsidized Materials The Student Union provides items such as printer ink, disk on keys, binding services and exam binders at discounted prices. Scholarships Each year, the Student Union raises funds for various student scholarships, which are granted based on academic excellence, community service and socioeconomic status. Community Service One of the Student Union's main purposes is to assist and contribute to society. This is done by initiating and organizing volunteering activities and by providing aid to various organizations. Activities include providing legal aid to underprivileged, food and clothing drives, tutoring services, etc. Social Activities The Union promotes cultural enrichment on campus through a variety of activities such as promotion of the IDC Herzliya music band, organization of social events and parties, fairs, trips at promotional prices to students and their friends, organizing a road trip club and bicycle trips, selling concert, theatre and events tickets at reduced prices, and organizing the student day. Reserve Duty The Student Union assists students on reserve duty by means of private tutoring, providing photocopy cards, etc. Green Campus The Student Union initiated wide ranging activities for the protection of the environment on campus, including setting up green waste bins, paper recycling facilities and promotion of student awareness about environmental issues. The money collected from the recycling of bottles and cans is applied to funding scholarships and contributing to student welfare in general. Elections for Student Union representatives will take place between October 28 and October 30. Each academic department will elect two representatives who take upon themselves to represent the department at the Student Union before the faculty and the IDC Herzliya administration. Elections are held by secret ballot and are specific to each academic department. The Student Union's president is elected by the entire community of students by means of direct votes, by secret ballot. Elections take place at the end of each academic year.
