ASSAULT ON SCHOOL TEACHERS, STAFFS
No action yet against
Netrakona municipal
councillor’s son

Police is yet to take any action
against Netrakona municipality
councillor and panel
mayor Sheikh Helal Uddin’s
sixth-grader son Sheikh Urdho
and his associates who
were accused in a case filed
four days ago for assaulting
teachers and staffs of Dutt
High School.
Urdho along with 15-20 of
his associates allegedly intruded
the school premises
on Saturday afternoon and
assaulted its teachers Mahbubur
Rahman Polash, Rezaul
Karim, senior office assistants
Sharif Uddin Khan Pathan, Bedana
Akhter and Mina Begum.
The school’s assistant head
teacher Mujibur Rahman filed
a case with Sadar police station
in this connection on the
same day.
Three of the injured took
treatment at Netrakona Sadar
Hospital.

said police were trying to
arrest the accused in the case.
Injured teacher Mahbubur
Rahman Polash alleged a
group of stalkers took position
at the gate of Dutt High School
and started stalking the girls
of Government High School
located just opposite to it.
The teacher said he had
gone to the school gate with a
stick to resist the stalkers and
hit Urdho twice with it around
12:30pm.
“I didn’t know Urdho is
Sheikh Helal’s son. If I knew
it, I wouldn’t have done anything
to him,” said Mahbubur.
Sheikh Helal is said to be an
Awami League backed councillor
of the municipality.
Teachers and staffs of the
school had decided to stage
demonstrations protesting the
incident, but later suspended
the programmes following a request
from State Minister Arif
Khan Joy, who is also the MP of
Netrakona-2 constituency.
Dutt High School’s Board
of Directors President Habibur
Rahman Khan Ratan
said the State Minister had
expressed his concern over
the incident and sought time
from the teachers’ community
till March 31 to resolve the
matter. •
Govt shuts down illegal
British Standard School

The government has ordered
the shutdown of British
Standard School in Rangpur
city for operating without approval
and irregularities.
The Directorate of Secondary
and Higher Education
(DSHE) has also been asked to
file a case against the school’s
managing committee.
An Education Ministry order
issued on Monday said that
the school had not secured the
government approval and had
various charges of irregularities
proven against it.
The school authorities are
accused of numerous irregularities
including charging extra
admission fees.
The DSHE director general
has been asked to inform the
ministry by April 20 about implementation
of its orders. •
