Two from Chicago charged<br />

with felony retail theft<br />

Kermit Collins, 55, of<br />

4514 S. La Crosse Ave. in<br />

Chicago, and Tawanda L.<br />

Adams, 48, of 11014 S. Esmond<br />

St. in Chicago, were<br />

charged March 4 with one<br />

count each of felony retail<br />

theft after they allegedly<br />

worked together to try to<br />

take 22 clothing items valued<br />

at a total of $996.50<br />

from a store on Orland<br />

Square Drive.<br />

Adams reportedly put<br />

merchandise in a cart, took<br />

it to a fitting room and concealed<br />

it in bags she placed<br />

under the cart. Then she<br />

pushed the cart near the<br />

doors to the store, left without<br />

the merchandise and got<br />

into the passenger’s seat of<br />

a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500,<br />

police said.<br />

Collins then drove the car<br />

near the doors, exited the<br />

car, entered the store and<br />

grabbed the two bags from<br />

the bottom of the cart, police<br />

said. He was told to stop<br />

when he exited the store but<br />

ignored commands, police<br />

said. Police also reportedly<br />

found two pairs of wire cutters<br />

inside the bags.<br />

Adams had an active warrant<br />

out of Cook County<br />

for driving while license<br />

revoked, and she additionally<br />

was charged with possession<br />

of a theft detection<br />

remover, police said. Collins<br />

also was charged with<br />

resisting a police officer.<br />

March 9<br />

• Christyanna N. Munoz,<br />

26, of 12215 S. Spencer St.<br />

in Alsip, was charged with<br />

possession of a controlled<br />

substance — and given<br />

municipal violation citations<br />

for possession of cannabis,<br />

possession of drug<br />

paraphernalia and speeding<br />

above the posted limit<br />

— after she allegedly was<br />

spotted driving a 2014 Kia<br />

Optima 56 mph in a 40 mph<br />

zone in the 8800 block of<br />

westbound 143rd Street.<br />

After she was stopped in<br />

the 14700 block of John<br />

Humphrey Drive, an officer<br />

noticed an odor of cannabis<br />

coming from her vehicle,<br />

police said. During a search,<br />

police reportedly found<br />

a bag containing a white<br />

powder weighing approximately<br />

1.5 grams that field<br />

tested positive for cocaine.<br />

Police also reportedly found<br />

a bag containing a green<br />

leafy substance in the driver’s<br />

side door of the vehicle<br />

and another bag containing<br />

a green leafy substance on<br />

the passenger’s seat of the<br />

vehicle. A straw cut to 1 1/2<br />

inches with a white powder<br />

residue also was discovered<br />

in her jacket pocket, police<br />

said. The leafy substance<br />

weighed approximately 9<br />

grams and field tested positive<br />

for cannabis, police<br />

added.<br />

March 3<br />

• Tierra H. Carroll, 21, of<br />

2035 216th St. in Sauk Village;<br />

Mercedes R. Fleming,<br />

24, of 2505 Pomo Court in<br />

Sauk Village; and Kimberly<br />

I. Porter, 34, 1951 Revere<br />

Road in Chicago Heights;<br />

each were charged with one<br />

count of retail theft after<br />

they allegedly worked together<br />

to try to take items<br />

valued at a total of $905<br />

from a store on Orland<br />

Square Drive. They reportedly<br />

selected merchandise,<br />

took it to a fitting room,<br />

concealed it and tried to<br />

leave the store. Porter had a<br />

child carrier with socks in it;<br />

Carroll had a bag containing<br />

merchandise; and Fleming<br />

had a diaper bag containing<br />

merchandise; police said.<br />

• Rosa Elida Huerta Sanchez,<br />

24, of 5015 Laramie<br />

Ave. in Chicago, was<br />

charged with retail theft after<br />

she allegedly tried to take<br />

five pieces of jewelry and<br />

eight clothing items valued<br />

at a total of $413.50 from a<br />

department store at Orland<br />

Square. She reportedly took<br />

the items into a fitting room<br />

over the course of two trips,<br />

concealed them in her purse<br />

and tried to leave the store.<br />

• Krystie L. Moreno, 30, of<br />

1017 Clark St. in Riverside,<br />

California, was charged<br />

with retail theft after she alleged<br />

tried to take 10 items<br />

valued at a total of $297.50<br />

from a department store at<br />

Orland Square. She reportedly<br />

concealed the items in<br />

her purse after taking them<br />

into a fitting room and tried<br />

to leave the store without<br />

paying for the items.<br />
