Buber, Senior Resource Executive at<br />

TAU. Prof. Shoshana Bar-Nun of the<br />

TAU Department of Biochemistry and<br />

Molecular Biology spoke on “Wine,<br />

Beer, Bread, Diet and Longevity: Meet<br />

the Yeast!” Among those attending<br />

were new Friends members and local<br />

community leaders.<br />

VICTORIA<br />

Film evening<br />

The Australian Friends in Victoria recently<br />

hosted a successful film night, an<br />

exclusive preview showing of the Ides of<br />

March at the Jam Factory Complex in<br />

South Yarra. The event was attended<br />

by TAU’s Meir Buber and drew 350<br />

people.<br />

Cocktail evening<br />

During Mr. Buber’s visit, an elegant<br />

cocktail evening for 60 was held at the<br />

home of Victoria Chapter President<br />

Victor Wayne and his wife, Karen.<br />

Both Mr. Buber and Dr. Wayne spoke<br />

at the event.<br />

The evening with Prof. Colin Price of<br />

TAU’s Department of Geophysics and<br />

Planetary Sciences that was held in<br />

Melbourne in July 2011 was generously<br />

hosted by Rosie and Dov Potaznik.<br />

Joseph Klafter’s recent<br />

visit to Canada, he<br />

was guest of honor at<br />

the Toronto Friends<br />

Association’s first TAU<br />

Overseas Students<br />

Program (OSP) Alumni<br />

event, attended by 60<br />

OSP graduates, their<br />

parents and guests.<br />

Representing the parents, Julie Sue Schwartz spoke<br />

about the wonderful experience her son was having<br />

at TAU, while OSP graduate Michelle Boles spoke on<br />

behalf of the students and alumni. In a separate event,<br />

Prof. Klafter met with donors and Jewish community leaders at a private dinner<br />

hosted by Martin and Joan Peskin.<br />

Forging ties<br />

Prof. Klafter met with the Ontario Minister of<br />

Health and Longtime Care, Deb Matthews,<br />

to discuss neuroscience; and with Minister<br />

of Training, Colleges and Universities Glen<br />

Murray; as well as with the presidents of the<br />

University of Toronto and Ryerson University<br />

to discuss future academic cooperation agreements<br />

with TAU.<br />

Prof. Klafter received a warm welcome in Montreal, where he met with National<br />

President of the Canadian Friends Judge Barbara Seal and members of the<br />

Board of the Canadian Friends, as well as with TAU Governor Marcel Adams<br />

and his family; attended a dinner reception in his honor hosted by longtime<br />

TAU supporters Tina and Max Smart in their home; and met with top officials<br />

of McGill University, headed by<br />

Heather Monroe-Blum, Principal and<br />

Vice-Chancellor, with whom he discussed<br />

future collaborations between<br />

the two institutions. During his visit,<br />

Prof. Klafter and Meir Buber, Senior<br />

Resource Executive at TAU also met<br />

with TAU supporters.<br />
