and with 40mm edges according to
the new code which will be issued
The rule change, decided
after consultations with players,
manufacturers and global governing
bodies, is in response to growing
concerns about the imbalance
Gerard Pique predicted a baby boom
in the Catalan capital following
Barcelona’s sensational 6-1 thrashing
of PSG on Wednesday. Sergi Roberto
scored five minutes into stoppage time
to cap the biggest Champions League
comeback of all time from a 4-0 first
“I would say to the hospitals of
Barcelona to hire nurses,” said Pique,
who has two children with Colombian
pop star Shakira. “Tonight people will
make a lot of love.”
Dramatic, late goals have a history
of causing a spike in the birth rate in
Barcelona. Iniesta’s equaliser to see the
The 100th Test
100th Test in former cricketing trio's minds
Bangladesh will contest their 100th Test match, against Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval in Colombo,
starting on Wednesday. BCB has already planned a small ceremony at the venue to mark the
occasion. Minhaz Uddin Khan of Dhaka Tribune got in touch with a few members of
Bangladesh’s first Test squad and penned down their respective thoughts on the milestone. Below
are the excerpts:
Galle – blend of Test cricket, history and natural beauty
• Ali Shahriyar Amin
from Galle
Anyone who wants to see Test
cricket, blue oceans, historical
places and quality foods all in one
place, then Galle is the place to be.
With the Indian Ocean visible
on both sides of the ground and
the famous 16th-century Dutch
clocktower in display, Galle's International
Cricket Stadium is something
special for a cricket lover.
The view of the deep blue water
of the Indian Ocean from the
gallery or the press box will please
both the cricket lovers and tourists.
The waves of the Indian Ocean
striking the western side of the stadium
is sight to behold.
With such beautiful views, the
soul of any cricket lover is bound
to be fulfilled. You can also watch
the action while walking or driving
past the ground.
Before being brought up to international
cricketing standards,
the stadium was known as “The Esplanade”.
The stadium is the home
ground of Galle Cricket Club. The
first Test match at this ground was
played in June, 1998. New Zealand
were the visiting side back then.
Sri Lanka have played 28 Tests at
this venue, winning 16 of them.
The island nation lost six and drew
as many in the remainder of the
matches.
The historical Dutch Galle Fort,
a heritage site listed by Unesco, is
just placed beside the cricket stadium
and people can see the full view
of the stadium from the rampant
of the fort. Having experienced an
entire Test between the Lankans
and the Tigers in Galle, this correspondent
will certainly cherish the
memories for a long time to come.
This writer's hotel is situated inside
the Galle Fort. Inside the fort,
it's a different world mixed with
history and culture. There are hotels,
guest-houses, various restaurants,
banks, museums, a library, a
church and a mosque; small shops
selling gems and jewellery, clothes,
artefacts, paintings, and even
books; and of course, residential
houses. The sunset point in the fort
and the lighthouse offer beautiful
view of the ocean.
Galle is quite memorable for
Bangladesh cricket in that back in
March, 2013, Mohammad Ashraful
hammered a brilliant 190 at this
very ground. Alongside Ashraful,
Mushfiqur Rahim made it an occasion
to remember as he became the
first ever Tigers batsman to blast
double hundred.
Mushfiq’s double century is the
seventh highest individual total at
this ground while Ashrafu’s 190 is
the 10th highest. Chris Gayle holds
the record of the highest score,
his 333-run innings coming back
in 2010. Bangladesh also hold the
record of one of the highest team
totals (638).
Galle has a special place in the
hearts of the Sri Lankans. Muttiah
Muralidaran and later Rangana
Herath inspired their side to incredible
victories on turning pitches.
One of the greatest off-spinners
of all time, Muralidaran bagged his
800th Test wicket here in Galle in
A devastating tsunami hit the Galle International Cricket Stadium in 2004. Thousands of lives were lost during that natural disaster
July, 2010. Muralidaran needed
eight wickets to achieve the milestone
and picked up exactly that
amount.
However, the stadium also has
a harrowing tale as part of its history.
A devastating tsunami hit
the ground in 2004. Thousands of
lives were lost during that natural
disaster. Water came from two
sides, giving thousands of people
Before being brought up to international
cricketing standards, the stadium was known
as “The Esplanade”. The stadium is the home
ground of Galle Cricket Club. The first Test
match at this ground was played in June, 1998
absolutely no chance whatsoever
to evacuate. It was a Sunday. Most
of the buildings around the stadium
were damaged, and the ground
was damaged substantially. In the
weeks that followed, the stadium
became a temporary shelter for
hundreds of people displaced from
the tsunami. A temporary camp
and a helipad were constructed
there in order to assist the survivors.
The cost of reconstruction
was approximately rupees
500,000,000. International support
was obtained for this, and
according to ESPNcricinfo, former
cricketers Shane Warne of Australia
and Ian Botham of England also
made notable contributions. The
stadium holds special memories
for Warne, who bowled Australia to
a 245-run victory with a 10-wicket
haul in his Test comeback following
a 12-month drug ban.
Renovation of the Galle International
Cricket Stadium began on
May 8, 2006. The rebuilding work
was completed in 2008 before the
England series. The renovation included
several new buildings, including
a new pavilion and a media
centre.
Galle offers many things other
than cricket. After watching Test
cricket throughout the day, along
with the mind-blowing view, a
cricket lover can help oneself to
traditional Lankan foods. That’s
why perhaps, it is regarded as one
of the most beautiful and iconic
Test venues of the world. •
Shahriar Hossain Biddut
The beginning
It was an exciting moment for us
and beyond our imagination. It was
like a dream to be a part of Bangladesh's
first Test team. All the 14
members, including myself, were
static on the occasion.
The achievement
Having played 100 Tests itself is
an achievement for our country’s
cricket. It is a matter of honour for
a small country like ours. It feels
nice to have come such a long way
in international cricket. We have
started improving in this format
and our players are getting composed
with each passing day. The
Jayasuriya: Bangladesh have a
very good team right now
• Ali Shahriyar Amin
from Galle
Legendary player and currently
the chief national selector, Sanath
Jayasuriya shared his thoughts
on his experience in Bangladesh's
club cricket and Bangladesh cricket
in general.
Jayasuriya said these comments
while talking to the media at Galle
International Cricket Stadium on
Friday in the sidelines of the first
Test match between Sri Lanka and
Bangladesh. Here are the excerpts:
On Bangladesh’s upcoming 100th
Test…..
They’ve been really good,
they’ve been improving. Bangladesh
Cricket Board has done a lot
cricket board has done a lot of work
to improve the game in our country.
But I will expect some sort of
ceremony from the board to mark
the occasion.
The failure
I do not think we lag behind in
terms of facilities, compared to
the top cricket-playing countries.
The cricket board is giving the right
support. Our cricketers are improving.
I do not think there is anything
more to be done. So the responsibility
lies with the players to get the
results and I believe a better future
awaits us.
Improvements needed
We need to play more longer version
games. Our team are improving
right now and things will only
get better the more we play this
format.
Akram Khan
The beginning
We were really excited. Never did
I think that I will be able to play
Tests when I started my career.
That time, all the attention was
towards the domestic cricket, especially
Mohammedan—Abahani
clashes. But we have come a long
way from that. And now we are getting
ready for our 100th Test. Three
members (others being Tamim and
Nafees Iqbal) from my family, including
myself, have been a part
of Tests. I am thankful to Allah for
everything.
My club is
Mohammedan. I
enjoyed my time
with the club. They
looked after me
very well
of things to improve grassroots
cricket, youngsters and it’s coming
up really well. At the moment you
have got a very good team. And the
team has been playing a long time
now. So they’re good, even though
sometimes the ups and downs will
be there, but Bangladesh cricket
The achievement
We have many individual achievements.
There are achievements as a
bowler and as a batsman but we are
yet to click as a team. We have progressed
in ODIs and T20Is but not
in the longer-version, only because
we are not given enough chances
to play the game. But I believe that
Bangladesh will do well if given
enough opportunities.
The failure
Not being able to play enough Tests
is the failure for us. We are doing
well in limited-over cricket only
because we are playing those regularly.
has done a lot of things.
It’s all up here, mentally. So if
you get a chance anybody can get
a big hundred like Kusal Mendis.
That will help the team.
Did you enjoy while playing Dhaka
club cricket?
My club is Mohammedan. I enjoyed
my time with the club. Looked after
me very well, I am happy and
Mahbub [Anam] looked after me
very well.
Your thoughts on the current
situation of the Galle Test…..
We got a good start and a big
score on the board and we got them
out for 312. We need to get some
runs on the board and put them
under pressure. •
Improvements needed
We have to look into both internal
and external affairs. Internally,
we have to improve the quality of
first-class cricket in the country.
We have to make better wickets for
the bowlers and make it tough for
the batsmen to score runs and increase
the players' interest towards
domestic competitions. Externally,
we have to demand more Test
matches from the ICC and other
Test-playing nations.
Habibul Bashar
The beginning
We are about to play the 100th Test
now but the start was never easy.
We got Test status suddenly. The
first thing I felt was the honour of
being a Test cricketer. It is a big
thing.
The achievement
We had to go through a lot of criticism.
Many during this journey had
complained that we got the status
prematurely. We had to struggle a
lot. None tried to understand that
it was never easy for us. So for me
the achievement is the way we are
now, we have started playing the
game well. We have been able to
put us up in that map. And we have
been able to earn the respect as a
cricket-playing nation. That's the
biggest achievement for us.
The failure
We have not been able to win that
many Tests. We should have won
more. We made slow progress and
there were many times when we
lost way in between a game. We are
playing good cricket now and able
to create the situation of winning a
game but still lack the expertise of
being triumphant.
Improvements needed
In order to do better, we need attacking
bowlers in this format. We
need batsmen too but at the same
time, it is a necessary to have attacking
bowlers. We are yet to find
those. I think if we have four or five
attacking bowlers in hand who can
win us matches, the scenario will
be different for us. •

India v England, 2nd Test
Tigers’ 10 most memorable moments in Tests
Bangladesh are on the verge of their 100th Test match, scheduled to start on Wednesday
against Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval in Colombo. In 98 Tests so far, the Tigers have been triumphant
eight times and lost 75 of them with 15 ending a draw. Since their inaugural Test in 2000
against India, Bangladesh have experienced many ups and downs. Below, Ali Shahriyar Amin
of Dhaka Tribune has listed 10 of the most memorable moments so far for the Tigers in the
longer version of the game.
1. Bulbul century (against India,
November, 2000)
Bangladesh played their maiden
Test against neighbour India in November,
2000, in Dhaka. The Test
was memorable in many ways for
Bangladesh as middle-order batsman
Aminul Islam Bulbul scored
a 145-run innings. He batted for
535 minutes and hit 17 boundaries.
Captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy
bagged a six-wicket haul in the first
innings. Bangladesh's batting collapse
in the second innings meant
India eventually won by nine wickets.
2. Multan Test (against Pakistan,
September, 2003)
The Test series between Pakistan
and Bangladesh will be remembered
for several reasons. Alok Kapali
clinched a hattrick in the second
Test, thus becoming the first
Bangladesh bowler to do so. But
in the third Test, played in the first
week of September, Bangladesh
came close to defeating mighty Pakistan.
At one stage, Pakistan were
reeling on 132 runs for six wickets.
But Inzamam-ul-Haq played one of
the best Test knocks of his career,
remaining not out on 138 to steer
his side to victory.
3. Javed-Nafees stand (against
Zimbabwe, January, 2005)
The marathon partnership came in
the second innings of the second
Test in Dhaka in January, 2005.
Bangladesh won the first Test and
battled to a draw in the second
match to clinch the two-game series.
Zimbabwe set a challenging
374-run target. Opening duo Javed
Omar and Nafees Iqbal formed a
brilliant 133-run partnership in 83
overs. Nafees went on to score 121
while Javed made 43. The stand
proved to be crucial in the overall
context of the game.
4. Tamim's twin tons at Lord's and
Manchester (against England,
May-June, 2010)
Tamim Iqbal scored back-to-back
tons in the first Test at Lord's and
the second Test in Manchester.
Tamim scored 103 in the second
innings and followed it with a 108
in the first innings in Manchester.
He played two superb knocks
against a formidable bowling lineup
comprising Jimmy Anderson,
Graeme Swann, Steven Finn and
Tim Bresnan. The tons against
England earned him “Test Player of
the Year” accolade, awarded by the
Wisden Cricketer magazine.
5. Mushfiq's double (against Sri
Lanka, March, 2013)
Mushfiqur Rahim became the first
Tigers batsman to score a Test double
hundred, against Sri Lanka in
2013. Mushfiq stitched together
a 267-run partnership with Mohammad
Ashraful on day three.
Ashraful surpassed the previous
highest score by a Bangladesh batsman
(158), remaining not out on
189 after day three. Mushfiq was
not out on 152. A day later, Ashraful
was dismissed for 190 but Mushfiq
carried his innings to register the
Tigers' first double.
6. Gazi's hattrick and century
(against New Zealand, October,
2013)
Sohag Gazi became the first cricketer
in Test history to take a hattrick
and score a century in the
same match, against New Zealand
in the first five-dayer in October,
2013. Gazi scored 101 not out in the
first innings as Bangladesh post
501, in reply to New Zealand’s total
of 469. Gazi took six wickets in the
second innings, conceding 77 runs
in 26 overs. The match ended in a
draw.
7. Abul's ton at No 10 (against West
Indies, November, 2013)
Abul Hasan made a scintillating
century as a No 10 batsman on debut
against the West Indies in the
second Test at Sheikh Abu Naser
Stadium in Khulna. Abul’s innings
was constructed with 14 boundaries
and three sixes. Bangladesh
scored 387, thanks to Abul’s century.
In reply, West Indies scored
a mammoth 648. Abul was not out
on seven in the second innings.
Abul became only the second Test
debutant in history to make a hundred
coming in at No 10.
8. Shakib's century and 10 wickets
(against Zimbabwe, November,
2015)
All-rounder Shakib al Hasan became
the fourth player in Test history
(after Alan Davidson, Ian Botham
and Imran Khan) to score a century
and bag a 10-wicket haul during the
second match against Zimbabwe at
SANS two years ago. Shakib scored
137 in the first essay and ended the
match with magical bowling figures
of 10 wickets, conceding 143 runs in
two innings. Bangladesh won by 162
runs and Shakib was elected man of
the match.
9. Tamim- Imrul partnership
(against Pakistan, April-May, 2015)
Opening duo Tamim and Imrul
Kayes put together a 300-run partnership
against Pakistan during
the first Test in April-May, 2015 at
SANS. Tamim made 206 while Imrul
scored 150. Their 312-run partnership
came off 457 balls. In the
process, Tamim became the highest
run-scorer for Bangladesh in
Tests. Pakistan scored 628 in reply
to Bangladesh’s 332. Tamim-Imrul’s
mammoth partnership in the
second innings went on a long way
in ensuring a draw.
10. Shakib's 217 (against New
Zealand, January, 2017)
Shakib blasted a double century
(217) against host New Zealand during
the first Test at Basin Reserve in
Wellington, leapfrogging the previous
highest score by a Bangladesh
batsman in five-dayers. Shakib
added a 359-run partnership with
Mushfiq for the fifth wicket - Bangladesh's
highest for any wicket in
Tests. Shakib’s innings was composed
with 31 boundaries. Bangladesh
lost the Test dramatically by
seven wickets.
below 200 was their 64-run win over
South Africa in Ahmedabad in 1996-97,
after they set a target of 170.
India's first-innings deficit,
87 from which they went
on to win the Test. It is the fourthlargest
first-innings deficit India have
overcome to win a match. The top two
are also against Australia: 274 runs at
Eden Gardens in 2001 and 99 runs at
Wankhede Stadium in 2004.
Runs for which Australia lost
11 their last six wickets - their joint
third-quickest six-wicket collapse.
They slid from 101 for four to 112 all
out. Against India, it was the joint
second-quickest such collapse. In
the first Test, India had lost their last
seven wickets for 11 runs in the first
innings.
Australia captain Steve Smith is a
"role model" and allegations that
he and his team flouted the rules
when deciding whether to review
decisions during the second Test
against India are "outrageous",
Cricket Australia said on Wednesday.
Incensed India captain Virat
Kohli accused Smith of “crossing
the line” on Tuesday when he was
given out lbw but looked toward
the players' area in the Bengaluru
stands as he mulled over using the
Decision Review System.
Players are not allowed to seek
direction apart from conferring
with the non-striker.
Smith said it had been a one-off
incident caused by a "brain fade"
but Kohli countered that it was
not the first time it had happened
and that he had complained to the
match officials.
"I find the allegations questioning
the integrity of Steve Smith, the
Australian team and the dressing
room, outrageous," CA chief executive
James Sutherland said in a
statement.
"Steve is an outstanding cricketer
and person, and role model to
many aspiring cricketers and we
have every faith that there was no
ill-intent in his actions.
"We reject any commentary that
suggests our integrity was brought
into disrepute or that systemic unfair
tactics are used, and stand by
Steve and the Australian cricketers
who are proudly representing our
country," he added.
Australia coach Darren Lehmann
denied his team had repeatedly
sought dressing room assistance
on reviews.
"Never, ever, ever," Lehmann
said. "Very surprised to hear that,
but it's their opinion."
"He (Kohli) has his opinion and
we have ours, but at the end of the
day, we play the game the right
way...We've never done any of that,
so we'll just get on with the next
game."
The Indian board issued a statement
throwing its weight behind
Kohli later on Wednesday, describing
the home captain as a "mature
and seasoned cricketer" whose
"conduct on the field has been exemplary".
"The Board of Control for Cricket
in India, after due deliberation
and seeing the video replays of the
3
India successfully defended a target
of 188, their joint fourth-lowest
in Tests. Three of the five smallest
targets defended by India have been
against Australia. Before this, Australia
had failed to chase 107 at Wankhede
Stadium in 2004-05 and 143 at MCG
in 1980-81.
Five-fors for Ashwin in just 47
25 Tests - the quickest among
all bowlers. The previous fastest to
25 five-fors was Richard Hadlee in
62 matches. Among India bowlers,
Anil Kumble took 86 matches and
Harbhajan Singh took 93 matches
to do the same. Ashwin is overall
the tenth bowler to have 25 or more
five-fors.
269 Test wickets for Ashwin - the
fifth-highest for India. He went past
Bishan Bedi's tally of 266 wickets. He
also completed 200 wickets in home
Tests in his 30th Test, the quickest
among the four India bowlers to do so.
In Numbers
episode, steadfastly stands with
the Indian cricket team and its captain
Mr Virat Kohli," the board said.
"Mr Kohli's action was supported
by ICC Elite Panel Umpire Mr
Nigel Llong who rushed in to dissuade
Mr Steve Smith from taking
recourse to inappropriate assistance."
The board hoped the remainder
of the series would be played in the
true spirit of cricket.
Peter Handscomb, who was at
the non-striker's end during the
incident, tweeted after the 75-run
defeat that he was to blame.
"I referred smudga (Smith) to
look at the box...my fault and was
unaware of the rule. Shouldn't take
anything away from what was an
amazing game!" he wrote.
4
The Times of India newspaper
ran a story on the episode with the
headline "Cheatgate erupts after
Smith's 'brain fade'".
Kohli's accusations are bound to
reverberate in coming days, with
the four-match series locked at 1-1
before the third Test in Ranchi next
week.
Australian media likened the
controversy to the infamous Sydney
Cricket Ground Test in 2008,
which soured relations between
the teams for a number of years.
The Anil Kumble-captained Indians
threatened to abandon the
series after bowler Harbhajan Singh
was found guilty of racially abusing
Australia's Andrew Symonds,
a conviction that was later overturned.
•
Number of bowlers (Nathan Lyon,
Ravindra Jadeja, Josh Hazlewood,
Ashwin) who took six or more wickets in
an innings in this match. This is the first
such instance in Test history. There have
been only two more Tests where bowlers
took four six-wicket hauls and both
were played more than 100 years ago.
Average partnership for
4.85 wickets sixth and below
in this series for India - their lowest in
any series in which they have had 20
or more partnerships. India's last five
wickets added 10 and 18 in Pune and
33 and 36 in this Test. India's average
stand for those wickets in the home
season prior to this series was 46.22,
with six 100-plus stands and eight
fifty-run stands in 49 innings.
The year in which an
1979 Australia fast bowler
last recorded better figures in India
than Josh Hazlewood's 6 for 65. Geoff
Dymock took 7 for 67 in Kanpur. Overall,
Hazlewood's figures are his best in
Test matches and the fifth-best by an
Australia bowler in India. Steve O'Keefe
and Nathan Lyon have also registered
their career-best figures in this series.
Difference in Lyon's
16.98 bowling averages
in the first and second innings in Asia.
He has picked up 38 wickets at 30.84
with three five-fors in the first innings.
In comparison, he has just 17 scalps at
47.82 with no five-fors in the second
innings. He has similar numbers in India
- 20 wickets at 25.20 in first innings
and eight wickets at 32.25 in second
innings. The difference in the averages
of the two innings in his overall career
is only 1.90.
Pujara was dismissed in
Barca refocus energy on title bid
• Reuters
Barcelona face the challenge of coming
down from the high of their epic
Champions League comeback against
Paris St Germain when they renew
their bid for a third successive La Liga
title with a visit to Deportivo.
Pipping rivals Real Madrid to the title
looked to be Barca’s best chance of
salvaging what had been a disappointing
campaign although Wednesday’s
6-1 win over PSG, which took them
into the quarter-finals of the Champions
League, has given them belief of a
second treble in three years.
Barca have won their last six league
games and scored 17 goals in their last
three in all competitions, although
Deportivo have improved under new
coach Pepe Mel and should provide a
• Reuters
Bayer Leverkusen are desperately
hoping new coach Tayfun Korkut can
inject new life into the Champions
League contenders in time to rescue
a European spot from an otherwise
disappointing season. Leverkusen
take on improving Werder Bremen on
Friday less than a week after their 6-2
Bundesliga demolition by Borussia
Dortmund triggered the departure of
coach Roger Schmidt.
Former Turkey international
Korkut is now tasked with helping
them secure a Europa League spot for
next season. Currently in 10th place
on 30 points after losing four of their
last six league games, Leverkusen
are 13 points away from third place
that leads to the Champions League
group stage and three behind the last
Europa League qualification place.
Gasperini could return to haunt Inter
• Reuters
Inter Milan face a crunch match in the
race for European places on Sunday
when they take on an Atalanta team
led by a coach they infamously sacked
after only five games.
Gian Piero Gasperini has resurrected
his career since his humiliating
experience just over five years ago and
turned modest Atalanta, a team usually
found in the middle to lower half of
the table, into unlikely contenders for
a Europa League place.
Only the fourth and fifth placed
teams in Serie A are guaranteed a
place in the following season’s Europa
League while a top three finish is needed
for the Champions League.
Atalanta, who have only played in
Europe four times before, are fifth with
52 points, with Inter one point and one
place below them.
Gasperini was hired by Inter before
the start of the 2011/12 but sacked
Mother of all comebacks – Who said what
Barcelona stunned PSG 6-1 (6-5 on aggregate) to reach the Champions League quarter-finals on
Wednesday in the greatest comeback in the history of the competition. Here we take a look at
who said what about the miracle at the Nou Camp.
"I threw myself at it with
everything. We left Paris (after the
first leg) very down and now this
is incredible. We were prepared
for all this. The fans were like 10
extra players and in the end this is
all for them."
- Sergi Roberto whose goal in the
fifth minute of injury time sealed
Barcelona's incredible triumph.
“I have never seen anything
like this. Only in sport can you
live through emotions like this.
We knew how to put them in difficulty,
we made them run, we prepared
well. We lost the first match,
but if we play like this, it will be
“I’d like to congratulate FC Barcelona.”
- Man City coach Pep Guardiola.
"It's crazy. After Paris, many
people spoke hard about our team
but [Wednesday] was special, we
made history. We know we are the
best team in the world."
- Barca midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
"It's a nightmare for everyone.
Three goals in seven minutes is
very difficult. Everybody is upset
but now is not the time to talk
about it."
- PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
"It's a miracle. We are in the
quarter-final. We never gave up
believing."
- Barca defender Gerard Pique.
"We didn't do the match we
wanted and then the position of
the referee was more often in favour
of Barcelona. But Barcelona
played with the right spirit to win
the match."
- PSG coach Unai Emery.
Welcome to the comeback club!
- New England Patriots.
We thought before that we
would be the exciting news
[Wednesday] night. But compared
The sort of game
that we won’t forget
in a hurry. Incredible
to watch, why we love football. Man City
You call it “football
“Barça”. You call it “miracle”, we call it
Quote of the Week
Any child in the Nou Camp [Wednesday] will
never forget this and neither will the adults. This
is a unique sport for crazy people. This is a night
which is difficult to explain in words, it had the
script of a horror film with a spectacular start with
an atmosphere which I have never seen in the Nou
Camp, with tension I have never seen before. I
would like to thank everyone who kept their faith
after we lost 4-0. This is dedicated to them because
this isn’t the Harlem Globetrotters, this is football.
- Barcelona manager Luis Enrique pays tribute to the
fans who stood by the team after their defeat in Paris.
Hero
Neymar
Neymar Jr drifted in and out of the historic
clash against PSG before finally making
his mark in the dying stages. After curling
in a delightful free kick, the Brazilian
thumped in a penalty before delivering
the all-important assist for Sergi Roberto.
Very few will ever forget his intervention
in the mother of all clashes.
