9. Establishment of a beef and chicken meat industry<br />
The livestock industry in Simiyu Region can be tripled through:<br />
increasing the reproductive and growth rates and quantities through<br />
investments in research to provide or cattle, poultry, small ruminants,<br />
and fish breeds with high genetic potential; reduction of mortality rates<br />
through improved access to veterinary services and establishment<br />
of disease free zones; investment in fodder and feed supplements<br />
production and land use planning of grazing lands for pastoralists and<br />
agro-pastoralists; rehabilitation and construction of livestock holding<br />
grounds and watering points; adding value through processing to<br />
increase output and income from the livestock industry; establishment<br />
of quality livestock markets, slaughter slabs/abattoirs, and milk<br />
collection and value addition plants.<br />
