Everyone must measure. 

Whether you are a professional or a DIY 

enthusiast. Day in day out. The best 

known measuring implement is the 

folding rule which was invented in 1865 

by the Ullrich brothers. The individual 

rules were joined together in 1886 by 

spring joints which click into place. This

exceed that for laser Class 2 

(under 1 milliwatt). Nevertheless,

level quickly and safely over large distances. The work 

is particularly easy when you use the STABILA NL 

levelling rod: 

1. Align the rod’s zero mark to the laser beam. 

2. Move the receiver on the levelling rod to bring it 

back in line with the laser beam’s height at the

Tripods 

Tripods are one of the most 

important tools when working with 

lasers. With the aid of a laser 

mounted on a tripod (depending 

on the type and height of the tripod)

285 cm can be levelled horizontally.

The measuring surfaces 

The measuring surfaces on 

spirit levels can be designed in 

various ways. In most cases, the 

complete body of the spirit level, 

including the measuring surface, 

is powder-coated, painted or 

anodised, but on some spirit 

levels the measuring surface is 

also milled flat after the coating 

process. 

In every case, it is important 

that the surface be completely 

smooth. For this reason, not 

every side of a spirit level can 

be used as a measuring surface.

For wooden rules, the most

The distinction between the 

individual categories comes 

from their area of application, 

which dictates the shape of 

their cross-section.
