On the Edge of it All
Me, the last to stand on this edge.
The brink of life, the threshold of death,
The border of an endless, eternal, ever growing pit.
Staring at the world before me. My future.
Could this possibly be the destiny that was meant for me?
A vast sea of corpses. Only time will tell.
The moment it takes to fire a shot, bare a fall, and say farewell.
Is this just? Did the enemy give anyone a fighting chance?
Gypsies, injured, weak, young?
Human bodies staring back at me.
For some, spirits gone, others barely hold on.
To their most cherished possession, life.
Our own kind, flesh and blood, going against us.
All because of a small difference.
The faint barrier but between us.
5
What could we have done to receive this?
Worship a scared text that we call our own?
Follow traditions of many generations past?
Take part in a legacy?
If only I had listened to the others,
The outcasts, the clues, myself.
Maybe I would not be here.
Me, the last to stand on this edge,
On the edge of a story’s ending, my grave.
Just to be murdered by a uniform.
No heart, no soul, just orders.
To extinguish all faults of life.
This world, my friend, is not the perfect place
That ruler of those soldiers dreamt it to be.
