Back in the Day<br />
You basked in the admiration of your peers when you wore your stylish bell-bottoms<br />
and “dyn-o-mite” platform shoes<br />
Your pubescent attributes penetrated the fact that<br />
you couldn’t take your eyes off those certain girls flaunting their attractiveness in their rainbow halter-tops.<br />
During school, your main priority was to focus and get good grades,<br />
and not speak the same juvenile venacular<br />
as the kids who talked back and came late to class.<br />
Swish went the bright orange basketball that flew in the sky to a netless hoop.<br />
Smiling and yelping, your good deeds were acknowledged by your teammates<br />
who treated you to three 10-cent burgers at the local White Castle.<br />
At your crib, once your homewowrk was finished, your strict, but loving, parents<br />
firmly checked what you did and eventually gave you the “okay” to listen to music.<br />
You boogied and gyrated to the funk, as you danced around and felt the soul<br />
coming from your favorite group, Earth Wind and Fire.<br />
After dancing, you were obligated to primp in the mirror and make sure your Afro<br />
was still as proportional as it was before you started to groove.<br />
I guess the 70’s have passed and the sweet memory of what was, is gone.<br />
But don’t worry Pops; I assure you that your psychedelic legacy will live on.<br />
