Glenbrook hosts Festival
of Music
Each year, the combined
choirs of Glenbrook South
and Glenbrook North present
the Glenbrook Festival
of Music.
This year, there were
two concerts on Sunday,
March 12, at the Chapel
of the Divine Word. The
singers were accompanied
by the Glenbrook Sinfonietta
and selected Wind
Ensemble members. This
annual event showcased
the talents of more than
450 student musicians.
Drew Dahan, from Illinois
Wesleyan University,
served as guest conductor.
Junior awarded IHSAE
bronze for ceramic work
GBS junior Kaya
Dlouchy was awarded a
bronze prize for her ceramic
work, titled “All
Are Welcome; We Are All
Okay,” during the 2017
Illinois High School Art
Exhibition in Bridgeport.
This represents the second
time in two years that
a GBS student’s artwork
was recognized at the exhibition.
Students invited to take
top math exam
Seven GBS students
recently qualified to take
the American Invitational
Mathematics Examination
due to their performance at
the American Mathematics
Competition.
Thousands of top mathematics
students around
the world take the AMC
each year. This test, in conjunction
with the exam, is
used to select the USA
Mathematical Olympiad
qualifiers each year — six
of the best high school
mathematics students in
the country.
ATTEA MIDDLE SCHOOL
Eighth-grader named state
spelling bee semifinalist
Justin Leszynski, an
eighth-grader at Attea
Middle School, will compete
in the semifinals of
the 2017 Illinois National
Geographic State Bee.
The state contest will
be held at Illinois State
University on March 31.
The state champion will
receive $100, a copy of the
National Geographic Concise
Atlas of the World,
and a trip to Washington
D.C. to represent his/her
state in the national competition
that will take place
May 14-17.
