THOMAFLUID ® -PI Micro Capillary Tubing<br />

Application area<br />

• Chemistry: For corrosive and aggressive media, for laboratory probes,<br />

for micro analysers and titrators, for fluid and gas flow transport in<br />

chemical-analytical and biomedical systems.<br />

• Electronics and electrical engineering: <strong>Co</strong>nnection of microcables,<br />

insulation of microcables (coaxial cables), high-temperature insulation,<br />

micro coil forms, sheathing and plug-in channel for micro glass-fibre<br />

(laser) optics, micro sensors, precision micro slip rings.<br />

• <strong>Co</strong>mputer, nuclear engineering: For use in systems with maximum<br />

packing density, for reduction of weight and for applications where radiation<br />

of high energy density (nuclear radiation, X-ray radiation) occurs.<br />

• Precision mechanics: Micro bowden cable bushing, guide post for<br />

magnetic tape cassettes, heat protection, roller cover, micro pipes for<br />

fluids (e.g. ink).<br />

Product specification<br />

• Polyimide micro tubing is absolutely seamless and non-porous. It has<br />

smallest inside diameters and wall thicknesses, in the range of 0.080 to<br />

1.151 mm and 0.013 to 0.051 mm respectively. Despite the extremely<br />

high wall stiffness the tubing can be bended springily to small radii.<br />

• PI micro tubing is chemically resistant and is usually used in applications<br />

where fluoroplastic tubing (e.g. PTFE tubing) is preferred.<br />

• Its chemical resistance combined with its mechanical, electrical, and<br />

thermal stability is outstanding.<br />

• Its manufacturing tolerances are extremely low leading to an excellent<br />

dimensional stability.<br />

• At overheating no toxic decomposition products are formed, as it is the<br />

case with fluoroplastics limiting there the number of applications. This<br />

problem does not occur with PI micro tubing.<br />
