The American woodcock, with its remarkable physical adaptations and its spectacular courtship behavior, is always a treat to observe. With the first hints of spring, these small birds appear on their breeding fields. The resulting courtship display is not to be missed! After a series of nasal peent calls, the male springs into to the ground like a falling leaf, often landing at almost the exact point of takeoff. During this program, we expect to observe this impressive display and discuss the many unique adaptations of this unlikely shorebird. Homelessness is not only an issue for younger adults and families but this problem is well known to older citizens, as recently evidenced in local news. GEORGETOWN BOOK SALE The Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are holding their annual book sale on March 17th, 18th, and 20th at the Georgetown Peabody Library. PAT’S DAY IN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT Antonietta DiLemme and Elisa Zullo, owners of Ristorante Molise, Amesbury, are honoring their father, Libero Zullo, with a fundraiser that celebrates St. Patrick’s Day and raises money for lung cancer. Libero was born on March 17 and died of lung cancer. A portion of proceeds from the dinner will go to Lung Strong – www.lungstrong.org.
