Department Honors
Margaret Wells, PhD- College of Nursing
Anna-Luise Katzenstein, MD- Pathology
(Not Pictured)
The Department of Neurology Residency Program earned a 5 year accreditation cycle
from the ACGME. The 5 year cycle is the longest awarded by the ACGME; a minority
of programs earn this designation. The dept. was commended by the ACGME for "its
demonstrated substantial compliance with the ACGME's Requirements for Graduate
Medical Education" and were "congratulated for an outstanding job in strengthening
the residency program..."
The Department of Ophthalmology Residency Program under the direction of Leon-
Paul Noel, MD recently received the status of Continued Accreditation from the
Residency Review Committee for Ophthalmology in accordance with the policies and
procedures of the ACGME. A five-year cycle, which is the longest cycle of
accreditation that can be attained, was granted.
The Department of Pathology Residency Program has been awarded a five-year
accreditation through 2013 by the Accreditation Council for Graduate medical
Education (ACGME). The five-year accreditation is the longest accreditation period
offered by the ACGME. The accreditation comes after a rigorous review of how
SUNY Upstate trains physicians for careers in pathology. The accreditation process
requires institutions to complete and submit an extensive written report. An on-site
review of the institution also is required.
