In short

AOC Friesland is an education centre
for VMBO GROEN (VMBO GREEN),
MBO GROEN (MBO GREEN) and Cursus &
Contract (Course & Contract).
VMBO GROEN offers preparatory secondary
vocational education (VMBO, roughly
comparable to Key Stage 3 and 4) in
Buitenpost, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden and
Sneek for pupils who have completed
primary school.
MBO (secondary vocational education)
GROEN offers 24 different MBO trainings
on four different levels within the BOL and
BBL framework for all its students who have
completed secondary school.
Cursus & Contract offers schooling and
workshops for professionals and amateurs
in- and outside the green sector. In addition
to schooling and workshop, Cursus & Contract
also takes part of several kinds of projects
and events not only just in the province of
Fryslân (Friesland), but also in Groningen,
Drenthe, in the Flevopolder and Overijssel.

Who we are
AOC Friesland is an education centre for VMBO GROEN (VMBO
GREEN), MBO GROEN (VMBO GREEN) and Cursus & Contract
(Course & Contract).

Our mission
Balanced education
AOC Friesland strives to incorporate the
learning style of current generations into
its view of education. That means we don’t
apply a strict teaching philosophy because
we don‘t believe we could get good results
with strictness. In our teaching philosophy
we make sure that the acquisition of
knowledge and skills are achieved by various
means. The ideal school should be balanced
between theory and practice, structure and
flexibility, guidance and freedom, projects,
traineeship and classes, collective and
individual assessment.
Getting the best results
AOC Friesland presents itself as a “people’s
organization”, in which the students and
staff play the main roles. In a pleasant
learning and working environment our staff
beavers away to achieve the best results
by working together with its students. It
happens naturally with a modern approach
in which the use of media as a tool is a must.
Our staff is really committed to our students
and is well-informed about their social
environment and experiences.
A diploma for all students
Students will leave the AOC Friesland with a
diploma, so they can either keep on studying
or be prepared for the job market. They are
well prepared and know what is expected
from them in terms of practicing a profession
or as a member of society.
Cooperation
AOC Friesland wants to emphatically
encourage cooperation. In the AOC Friesland
we develop even stronger ties between the
different school locations and with Cursus
& Contract. Further cooperation with the
business world is required in order to create
a good connection between our trainings
and the professional field.
Usage of skills
AOC Friesland wants to gear up itself
towards arising chances and make better
use of the skills of our employees in this
process. In addition to developments in
education and economy, developments in
the province of Fryslân and on the Frisian
countryside are being watched closely.

VMBO GROEN
VMBO GROEN offers its pupils, who have completed primary
school, a preparatory secondary vocational education (VMBO) in
Buitenpost, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden and Sneek.

Meaningful education
Our schooling is geared towards the gaining
of experience, which we offer in a practical
way. Learning takes place with head, heart
and hands.
Active & independent
Our way of schooling is focused on an active
and independent way of learning.
Learning in context & together with
others
When several courses within a learning
sector are merged, a certain connection
is made. When pupils work together, they
discover that they can help and learn from
each other this way.
Safe & challenging
In addition to a clean, inviting school
with modern means of education and
an abundance of computers, we would
naturally like to be a safe school. We have
clear rules and our staff knows its pupils
and their background. We offer guidance
adapted to our pupils‘ needs. In short,
we offer a place where they can feel just
at home!
Our green environment
We don’t call ourselves VMBO GREEN for
no reason. Our pupils are taught using
green assignments and general knowledge
is offered in a green environment whenever
possible.

MBO GROEN
To students, who have completed secondary school, we offer 24
different MBO GREEN trainings within the BOL and BBL framework.

Some trainings can be placed together
when they somehow relate to structure,
mentality and career opportunities. Such
a group of matching trainings we call a
“world”. There are 6 of these worlds in
AOC Friesland’s MBO GREEN program,
which are: Surprising Nature, Animal
Friends, Mighty Machines, Good Food,
Dynamic Design and Natural Health.
In each world pupils can choose between
a BOL (senior vocational training) and a
BBL (theoretical training for apprentices)
course. Each course is divided into 4
levels. In the BOL course students go to
school for no more than 80% of the time
and do a practical training for at least 20%
of the time. In the BBL course students
go to school one or two days a week and
having a job at a company in the related
area is required.
MBO GROEN 1 & 2
For those who are practically oriented and
have completed the Basisberoepsgerichte
Leerweg (basic profession-oriented learning
path) at a VMBO school, the AOC Friesland
has created a special education concept. This
concept goes under the name PAS-groen and
is a secondary profession-oriented training,
which uses practice, work and schooling. The
students learn and work at their own level
and at their own tempo, and will be coached
intensively by teachers and coaches who are
specifically trained for this goal.
MBO GROEN 3 & 4 / BBL
“Entice to learn”. This education concept
entails that students learn from professional
practice, in which the development of skills is
stressed. Attention is being paid not only to
knowledge, but also to the development of
many personal, practical and social skills. It’s
important that students play an active role in
the learning process. The staff will support,
stimulate and guide these efforts.

Cursus & Contract offers schooling and workshops for both
professionals and amateurs, in- and outside the green sector.

In addition to education we are engaged in
a multitude of projects and events in- and
outside of the province of Fryslân.
Education
From computer use to European tree worker,
from flower arrangement to landscaping,
from starting entrepreneur to rural tourism,
from basic security to company safety. Every
year a new Cursus & Contract offers a broad
range of leisure and professional courses.
Projects
One of our strong sides is organizing,
holding and supporting projects in the
countryside of Fryslân, Groningen, the
Flevopolder and Overijssel. Please take a look

Events
There is a lot to be settled when an event is
organized. A good project sketch and costs
outlines, and the amount of success depends
on publicity and the right atmosphere.
AOC Friesland Cursus & Contract has
shown that it is capable of organizing
events successfully. Not only in the Frisian
countryside, but also in Groningen, Drenthe,
the Flevopolder and Overijssel. Please take
