Lyndsay Elizabeth Brooks
Lyndsay remembers wanting to be a veterinarian when she was a
child. Now that she is closer to being “grown up,” she plans to become
a pediatrician and care for children. She will be majoring in Biology this
fall in preparation for medical school. For the past three years, she has
been a Student Volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Currently,
she works in the Pediatric Emergency Room. She finds the time she
spends there to be very rewarding and hopes to make it her career.
SCPC created for her a safe, friendly environment where she always felt
loved, accepted and nurtured. The community of the Co-Op helped
her family through a very difficult time, and not only was she offered
comfort and understanding; she was given the opportunity to thrive.
And if that were not enough, she even met her best friend there, Kate
Gott! The community atmosphere she experienced at the Co-Op has
certainly helped to shape her worldview and she hopes to carry that
ideal with her wherever her life leads.
Since her years at SCPC, she has several accomplishments of which
she is quite proud. Lyndsay has been recognized as a Carson Scholar
the past 5 years. She is most proud of this accomplishment because it
requires not just high academic achievement, but strong community
service ties as well, and one must reapply for recognition each year. Being part of this group has and will
always remind her that striving for goals are essential in life.
For the past 15 years, Lyndsey has been dancing ballet at L’Ecole de Danse, and for the past 5 years, she
has danced with the Chesapeake Ballet Company, performing in their annual Nutcracker and Spring
Productions. She also enjoys Lyrical and Modern Dance.
Recently she was elected Treasurer of the South River High School Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Similar to Carson Scholars, NHL binds excellence in academics and service. For the past two years, she has
also chaired the Chemo Care Bags Committee for National Honor Society, organizing donations and the
delivery of comfort items for patients undergoing chemotherapy at local hospitals. While she was a student
at SCPC, she had a parent who was diagnosed with cancer and required chemo. Her SCPC teachers,
classmates and their families were so supportive to her and her family during that difficult period. Lyndsay
says that “being involved with Chemo Care Bags is just one way that I try to ‘pay it forward.’”
Lyndsay has worked on several mission projects through the Youth Group at her church (Holy Family in
Davidsonville) both locally and in Baltimore. Since Middle School, she has assisted in Children’s Vacation
Bible Camps at both Holy Family and with Kate and her church, Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian.
Lastly, Kate and Lyndsay earned their Girl Scout Silver Awards in 2013 in part due to the reconstruction of the
playhouse at SCPC. They wanted to pour their energies into something that held meaning for them both and
the playhouse, where they spent so many wonderful hours together, was the logical choice. They enlisted
their families and local businesses for donations of time, expertise and materials to bring the playhouse back
to its original glory.
Lyndsay has so many fond memories of her time at SCPC! Her very favorite memory was Beach Day, 2004.
She clearly remembers sharing her “Hello Kitty” beach towel with Kate, and pretending to sun bathe in
their bathing suits and sunglasses. It was also her 5th Birthday that day, making it an extra-special memory
for her.
A message from Lyndsay to future generations of SCPC graduates is to keep in touch with those you meet
at SCPC. “These are good people. They make the best memories…and the best life-long friends! And,
when you grow up and have children of your own, be sure to find them a school just like SCPC!”
