A Letter FROM THE TEACHERS
Welcome!!
Tonight’s fundraiser promises to be a very exciting evening for everyone. It’s always fun to have an
opportunity for parents to get together and a chance to visit with friends and alumni.
We really appreciate all the hard work you parents do each year to make the school so successful. It is
such a pleasure to work in an environment where everyone is committed to making their child’s school
such a positive experience. Ann and I are forever impressed with all the countless hours parents put into
our school to keep it running smoothly.
The idea for SCPC began in 1973 when a group of parents got together to discuss the need for a preschool
in the community. The first class was held the following school year and we moved into our present
building in 1976. Since that time SCPC has been a mainstay in the community. Our mantra “Learning
through Play” is as true today as it was over 40 years ago. While society has changed a lot over the last
40 years, a child’s need to explore their environment and nurture relationships has not. Yet SCPC has
always been so much more than just a preschool. By creating a co-operative preschool all those years
ago, parents have the opportunity to share in their children’s learning experiences and create friendships
of their own. Being a parent of a preschooler is a demanding job. It is amazing what the effect of even
a ten minute “adult” conversation during drop-off can have on the rest of your day - or better yet, the
chance to work in the classroom and watch your child make new friends. Another amazing thing about
SCPC is how many parents leave the school and continue to be very active in the community. Whether it
is P.T.A., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, D.A.A, or any community group, there is usually a SCPC alumni involved.
We would also like to give a big thank you to Mandy Watts and all the members of the Events and
Fundraising Committee. They have been working since the summer to put together a wonderful night for
all of us. We’re anxious to see what they did with all the cassette tapes they’ve been collecting and how
they remember the ‘80s!
As always, we have enjoyed teaching your children and watching them grow this year. We look forward
to their big hugs and smiles each day!
Working with young children guarantees
that no two days will ever be the same.
We hope you all have as much fun at
school as we do!
We look forward to tonight’s festivities
and hope that everyone has a “whale of
a time” and as Mr. Campbell always says,
“Bid high and bid often!”.
Love,
Miss Barbara and Miss Ann
A NOTE FROM the president
Welcome to our 80s’ Night Dinner and Auction!
We are thrilled you could join us tonight to celebrate our wonderful school. The South County Pre-
Kindergarten Cooperative really is more than just a preschool; it is our community. Our children come to
school to play, to learn and to explore all that being a child has to offer. As parents actively participating
in class, we have gotten to experience the joys of preschool all over again, this time through our children.
The school has also provided the opportunity for both our children and us to make friends and develop
a support network.
Ms. Barbara and Ms. Ann are two very special people in our lives and the lives of our children! Thank
you for instilling in our children a true love of learning. And thank you for the patience it takes to teach
our children day in and day out. Thank you to everyone who made tonight possible – without your
tireless work and countless hours we could never have such a wonderful evening. Mandy Watts was so
dedicated to making this night a success that only the flu managed to slow her down even a little. Beatriz
Brown has also been instrumental in organizing the auction, along with Amanda Schneider and the rest of
the fundraising committee. Despite being a smaller committee this year, they were able to accomplish
so much and create this wonderful night. We all owe you thanks for your tremendous efforts.
To our sponsors, program advertisers, item donors, members, volunteers and attendees, we thank you –
without you, our Auction would not be a success. We are absolutely grateful for your generosity! Please
enjoy all that tonight has to offer, bid on lots of silent auction items, have fun at the prize wheel and ready
your paddles for an exciting live auction. Mr. Campbell will not disappoint, so bid high and bid often. All
proceeds benefit our wonderful school and beautiful children that we cherish so much!
Thank you and have a totally radical evening and party like it’s 1989!
2017 Legacy Award Winners
Lyndsay Elizabeth Brooks
Lyndsay remembers wanting to be a veterinarian when she was a
child. Now that she is closer to being “grown up,” she plans to become
a pediatrician and care for children. She will be majoring in Biology this
fall in preparation for medical school. For the past three years, she has
been a Student Volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Currently,
she works in the Pediatric Emergency Room. She finds the time she
spends there to be very rewarding and hopes to make it her career.
SCPC created for her a safe, friendly environment where she always felt
loved, accepted and nurtured. The community of the Co-Op helped
her family through a very difficult time, and not only was she offered
comfort and understanding; she was given the opportunity to thrive.
And if that were not enough, she even met her best friend there, Kate
Gott! The community atmosphere she experienced at the Co-Op has
certainly helped to shape her worldview and she hopes to carry that
ideal with her wherever her life leads.
Since her years at SCPC, she has several accomplishments of which
she is quite proud. Lyndsay has been recognized as a Carson Scholar
the past 5 years. She is most proud of this accomplishment because it
requires not just high academic achievement, but strong community
service ties as well, and one must reapply for recognition each year. Being part of this group has and will
always remind her that striving for goals are essential in life.
For the past 15 years, Lyndsey has been dancing ballet at L’Ecole de Danse, and for the past 5 years, she
has danced with the Chesapeake Ballet Company, performing in their annual Nutcracker and Spring
Productions. She also enjoys Lyrical and Modern Dance.
Recently she was elected Treasurer of the South River High School Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Similar to Carson Scholars, NHL binds excellence in academics and service. For the past two years, she has
also chaired the Chemo Care Bags Committee for National Honor Society, organizing donations and the
delivery of comfort items for patients undergoing chemotherapy at local hospitals. While she was a student
at SCPC, she had a parent who was diagnosed with cancer and required chemo. Her SCPC teachers,
classmates and their families were so supportive to her and her family during that difficult period. Lyndsay
says that “being involved with Chemo Care Bags is just one way that I try to ‘pay it forward.’”
Lyndsay has worked on several mission projects through the Youth Group at her church (Holy Family in
Davidsonville) both locally and in Baltimore. Since Middle School, she has assisted in Children’s Vacation
Bible Camps at both Holy Family and with Kate and her church, Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian.
Lastly, Kate and Lyndsay earned their Girl Scout Silver Awards in 2013 in part due to the reconstruction of the
playhouse at SCPC. They wanted to pour their energies into something that held meaning for them both and
the playhouse, where they spent so many wonderful hours together, was the logical choice. They enlisted
their families and local businesses for donations of time, expertise and materials to bring the playhouse back
to its original glory.
Lyndsay has so many fond memories of her time at SCPC! Her very favorite memory was Beach Day, 2004.
She clearly remembers sharing her “Hello Kitty” beach towel with Kate, and pretending to sun bathe in
their bathing suits and sunglasses. It was also her 5th Birthday that day, making it an extra-special memory
for her.
6
A message from Lyndsay to future generations of SCPC graduates is to keep in touch with those you meet
at SCPC. “These are good people. They make the best memories…and the best life-long friends! And,
when you grow up and have children of your own, be sure to find them a school just like SCPC!”

Katherine Victoria Gott
Kate’s years at South County Pre-K Co-Op helped her learn the most important things in life: how to share,
how to be flexible and how to be a friend. She believes that learning through play is the best way to start
a child’s journey of learning. Miss Barb and Miss Ann taught her so many things all while having fun. She
and her friends were free to be little kids and do all the things little children should do -- paint, build with
blocks, sing songs, play games, run outdoors, and much more! Kate feels that all of this helped shape the
person that she is today.
Kate has many memories from SCPC, when she was little she wanted to be an Astronaut. For Christmas
one year she asked for a telescope and a globe. She also remembers playing in the housekeeping area
with her best friend, Lyndsay Brooks. And her fondest memory at SCPC was being Star Of The Day!
The SCPC helped Kate in getting straight A’s in school, earning a spot in the Maryland Junior and Senior
All State Chorus, landing a lead role in her high school’s musical this year, performing at Carnegie Hall with
All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis and earning the Girl Scout’s Bronze and Silver awards.
Her best friend Lyndsay and Kate chose to makeover the playhouse
at SCPC for their Sliver Award in highschool. They loved playing in the
housekeeping area when at SCPC, it was their favorite activity at school.
They added wallpaper, curtains, and flowers, put shingles on the roof,
painted a washing machine on one of the cabinets, purchased dishes and
added new dress-up clothes as well as organized the toys in the house.
Kate remembers, “It was a lot of fun and a way to give back to our favorite
teachers and the school we love!”
In her free time Kate enjoys spending time with her close friends, playing the
ukulele, singing, performing in school dramas and musicals, and anything
to do with fashion.
Kate hopes future generations at
SCPC will always remember the
time they spent there with fondness.
She hopes those students and their
parents never underestimate the
power of learning through play.
Legacy Awards
EACH YEAR, WE RECOGNIZE A MEMBER OF THE
SCPC ALUMNI FAMILY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING
COMMITMENT TO THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF
YOUNG CHILDREN AND OTHER COMMUNITY EFFORTS.
