persons of every race, language, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity
or expression, physical or mental ability, economic or marital status, and faith background,
and we affirm and celebrate all loving and committed relationships.
UNISON PRAYER
Gracious God, you invite us to move from being observers of your love
to being participants. Thank you for honoring us with opportunities to share
in your compassion. You teach us the wisdom of work and the joy of
generosity. Thank you for the courage to risk new ventures in faith. Grant
us the strength and peace of your presence as we attempt to be true to your
calling, this day and in all our days to come.
Someone should calm a world at war,
Heal the sick and feed the poor.
Someone should make all hate a crime;
Perhaps someday will come.
Someone’s you, and someone’s me,
Someday’s now and together
We can shape the future which can be
One where dreams come true.
Someone should stand and, face to face,
Strongly condemn the taunts of race to race.
Someone should blaze the path to peace;
Perhaps someday will come.
SCRIPTURE READING REVELATION 3:1–3, 22:1–5
HYMN JERUSALEM, MY HAPPY HOME
Jerusalem, my happy home,
When shall I come to thee?
When shall my sorrows have an end?
Thy joys, when shall I see?
Thy saints are crowned with glory great;
They see God face to face;
They triumph still, they still rejoice;
Most happy is their case.
There Magdalen hath left her moan,
And cheerfully doth sing
With blessèd saints, whose harmony
In every street doth ring.
“Land of Rest”
Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
God grant that I may see
Thine endless joy, and of the same
Partaker ever be!
RECOGNITION OF 50-YEAR MEMBERS
VERSICLES #533
PASTORAL PRAYER Catherine Crooks
OFFERTORY FLY AWAY MEDLEY Traditional melodies
Arr. Mary Hayes
Solo Trio: Cole Williams, Sophie Deutsch and Ming Montgomery
Instrumentalists: Mark Banker, banjo; Heather VanderLey, violin;
Jeff Novak, guitar; Joe Weismann, bass; Tim Brunelle, drums;
Dan Doffing and Kelly Poster, trumpet; Chris Kopp and Nick Pell, trombone;
and Ian Wilkinson, tuba
Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away;
To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away.
When the shadows of this life have gone, I’ll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I’ll fly away.
Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand
All the ways that God would lead us to that blessed Promised Land;
But He’ll guide us with His eye, and we’ll follow till we die;
We will understand it better by and by.
By and by, Lord, when the morning comes,
When the saints of God are gathered home;
We will tell the story, how we’ve overcome;
We will understand it better by and by.
On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye
To Canaan’s fair and happy land, where my possessions lie.
I am bound for the Promised Land;
Oh, who will come and go with me?
I am bound for the Promised Land.
Oh, when the Saints go marchin’ in
Lord, I want to be in that number.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION & DOXOLOGY #464
Praise to God, immortal praise, for the love that crowns our days!
Bounteous source of every joy, let thy praise our tongues employ;
Singing thus through all our days: Praise to God, immortal praise! Amen.
Plymouth Supports Marriage for All
In support of marriage for all, we host a 24-hour candlelight vigil and
prayer Nov. 5–6, in the Chapel. During this critical election, we are
committed to vote and called to prayer. Trusting that grace and justice
abound when loving spirits gather, you are invited to a silent prayer and
meditation vigil starting at 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5 and running until the
polls close at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6. Please sign up online via our website
(http://www.plymouth.org/about/vigil_signup.php) or just drop in. We also
hope you are inspired to help in the effort to move others to cast their vote
during the time the polls are open. To volunteer, contact Minnesotans
United for All Families (www.mnunited.org).
Final Healing Minnesota service, Nov. 11, 7 p.m., will feature Rev. Grant
Stevensen, faith director for Minnesotans United for All Families, Rabbi
Jennifer Gertman, along with local musical luminaries Dennis Spears and
Sanford Moore. Co-sponsored with OutFront Minnesota. Gather, no matter
the election outcome, to encourage love, respect and healing following this
divisive campaign. Please note start time of 7 p.m.
