ADULT BASIC EDUCATION
Instruction in Braille, sign language, cooking, shoping, money
management, keyboarding, and computers is offered
depending on each students need.
VOCATIONAL EVALUATION AND TRAINING
Job training begins in our workshop where students prepare
for competitive employment. For many of our adult students,
this is their first work experience. While learning how to do
different types of work, such as preparing the Center’s
mailings or packaging small automotive parts, they are also
learning important skills such as communication skills, work
ethics and how to handle a dispute. Earnings from the
workshop are used to teach money management.
EARLY INTERVENTION
The Early Intervention Program prepares children who are blind to enter
public schools ready to learn alongside our non-disabled children, and
to participate in all of the childhood experiences that help build confident
and competent adults. To achieve this, we provide individualized training
and support to families so that they can create an enriching home
environment for their blind children.
At our residential training center in Daytona Beach, adult students from throughout Florida,
who are blind and have at least one additional disability, learn the skills necessary to care for
themselves and their household.
ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY
Students learn how to travel safely in the community using the
familiar white cane, basic protective and trailing techniques,
using a sighted guide, and using public transportation.
