(57) Abstract :
An electronically commutated motor (20) has Lerminala (56, 62) for oonnection to a DC power.source (63). It has a permanentmagnet
rotor (22), also a first and a second series circuit (40, 50; in each of which a fltator winding strand is connected in series with a
first and a second controllable semiconductor switch, respectively, which two series circuits are connected in parallel to form a
parallel circuit (52) . Jr. a supply lead to said parallel circuit (52), a thiro controllaole semiconductor switch (60) controls energy
supply to the motor (20) from the DC power source (63). A control apparatus is implemented to carry out, in operation, the following
steps: alternately, influenced b\ the rotational position of the rotor (22), the possibility of energy supply from the DC power source
(C3) to the one winding strand is activated during a potential current-flow phase, and the possibility of energy supply to the other
winding strand is deactivated during said potential current-flow pnase. Tne potential current-flow phase of the one winding strand is
separated in time, by a respective commutation procedure, from tnat of the other winding strand. During a potential current-flow
phase, at. a switchover instant (FIG. 4: t64) the third controllable semiconductor switch (60) is blocked for the purpose of initiating a
commutation procedure. The first and/or second semiconductor switch (34, 44) conductive at the switchover instant (t64) it held in the
conductive state sc that after Blockage of tne third controllable semiconductor switch (60), a circulating current (i31; i31') that
generates a driving torque in the motor flows, in operation, ir. the parallel circuit (50), and saia circulating current is monitored. Wher.
said circulating current reaches a predetermined low aosolute value, the first and/or second semiconductor switch conductive at that
moment is blocked. Depending on the rotational position of the rotor (22), as part of the commutation procedure the potential currentflov.
phase of the one strand is deactivated and that of the other strano is activated, ano tne third semiconductor switch is switched on
again.
